Iran slams expected nuclear report

Iran hardly needs a nuclear bomb to stand up to the United States, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Tuesday, ahead of a critical International Atomic Energy Agency report that is expected to say his country has mastered nuclear weapons capabilities.

The report says there is no evidence that Iran has made a strategic decision to actually build a bomb, but its nuclear program is more ambitious and structured, and more progress has been made than previously known, Western diplomats who were briefed on the report told CNN.

Ahmadinejad attacked the United States and its allies for the allegations against Iran and warned that Washington would face a "crushing response" if it stood up against the Iranian people, the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported Tuesday.

Washington and its allies measure their progress and development in the destruction of other countries' infrastructure, Ahmadinejad said.

The nations that have already produced and stockpiled nuclear weapons, he said, are the ones who pose a danger to the world, not Iran.

He said Iran can achieve its objectives "through cultural and logical methodology," and didn't need a bomb to challenge Western ways, IRNA said.

The IAEA report, expected out this week, will contain the most detailed charges to date that Iran's nuclear program is geared toward weapons development and military use, the diplomats told CNN.

The report says " there is no evidence that Iran has made a strategic decision to build a bomb'.

Israel possesses 200 nukes & missiles to deliver them ( more than what a super power like Britain has ) besides cruise missile carrying subs, cruise missiles and land based missile launchers. They have F-35's the latest in what we have. Iron Dome missile defence system etc.etc. Just last month we quietly handed over 55 Bunker busting bombs to them.

Israel certainly has all the right to attack Iran & get us involved in another disaster of unknown proportions. Great.

If the USA, or anyone else, gets involved in a war on Israel's side, it will be the first time ever. Israel have always fought their own wars.

    @ George Patton

You are not that off the mark.
MIC would yet be our undoing. Dwight D. Eisenhower had warned us back in the 60s.

It is time for Israel to do to Iran what it did to both the Osirak nuclear facility near Baghdad, Iraq in June 1981, and the al-Kibar nuclear facility in Syria in September 2007. It is time for Israel to blow Iran's nuclear reactors up and completely destroy them.

Gee, Mark L., do you honestly believe all that right-wing mumbo-jumbo you posted above? It's high time that we engage Iran in peaceful negotiations and brought Israel to the table too. Enough of all this idiotic warmongering. The problem lies with the warmongering politicians in Washington who put absolutely nothing of value on human life!!!

  7. Northern View

Being from north of the border, we aren't seeing as much of the economic problems as you all down south. My heart goes out to all your families and friends in these uncertain times. Now on to business. I am an avid reader of CNN news, as well as our own CTV news here. I find the differing opinions and views on this emerging political crisis to be a tad mind-boggling. Our troops have followed yours into almost every major middle-eastern conflict with the exception of Iraq, and while I haven't supported all the conflicts, I have always supported the soldiers (being one myself). All this publicizing of Israeli foreign politics and their seeming inability to be able to resolve their own crises without American intervention or approval needs to stop. I am well aware of the repercussions of a localized, multinational middle-eastern conflict to western interests and this is one of those scenarios where NATO needs to just stay out of it, and let them thin each others' populations out. The Arab League nations and NATO will have no influence on whether or not Israel and Iran go to war, if it is going to happen, it will happen. The Muslim world will not be able to have coherent goals on who to attack due to the sectarian schisms that exist.
