Rapper Heavy D dies at 44

Dwight Arrington Myers, also known as rapper Heavy D, died Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles coroner’s office.

He was 44.

The emergency room staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center pronounced Myers dead "earlier this afternoon," L.A. Coroner Chief of Operations Craig Harvey said.

Myers gained fame in the late 1980s as part of the rap group Heavy D & the Boyz. Driven by the success of the group's first single, "The Overweight Lover's In the House," Heavy D & the Boyz gained national exposure and became a fixture on the hip-hop scene.

Later Myers would turn to acting. He was cast in bit parts in several sitcoms and movies in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

The cause of death is yet to be determined but the coroner's office will begin an investigation.

One thing that an autopsy shows is how much the persons colon (large intestine) weighs.

John Wayne – Autopsy revealed that John Wayne's colon weighed 82 pounds. 77 pounds were composed of dried fecal matter.

The player who guesses closest to how many pounds Heavy D's colon weighs wins 25 *'s. Guess how many pounds under or over 100. My guess is 6 lbs. over. What's yours?

I have personally been a part of close to a hundred autopsies. Not a single one was the colon weighed. Never was needed. Guts went into the gut box

You are a big fat LIAR. You said "I have personally been a part of close to a hundred autopsies. Not a single one was the colon weighed. Never was needed. Guts went into the gut box". you are a lying biatch. Millions of Americans have died from colon disease, colon's are in fact weighted and closely examined to determine the exact cause of death.

Only a brainless ignorant biatch would believe your obvious attempts to deiscredit the truth about obesity.

Gee, aren't you a high class moron. Read Jillian's arguement, and then your rebuttal. Perhaps it will become apparent to you that Jillian is more credible.

  5. RAP is CRAP

I have never been nor ever will be a fan of rap. RAP is GARBAGE and I could honestly care less about "Heavy D's" fate. I propose gathering all Hip-Hop and Rap CD's, Albums, etc., taking them to Comiskey Park and BLOWING THEM UP just like a radio DJ did to disco back on July 12, 1979. Honestly, I cannot understand today's youth and what they see in this HIP-HOP and RAP TRASH !!!! But then again, I guess it does go well with crack-pipe and meth-amphetamine dope-addicts !!!!

If you have nothing positive to say, then you should keep your mouth shut!!! While I am not a big fan of rap either, I do recognize Heavy D's contribution to the genre of rap. He was one of the early pioneers whose rap did not include the profanity often heard from today's rap "artists". He also had very smooth moves and was an excellent dancer ... particularly for a man of his size. R.I.P. Heavy D. My prayers go out to his family.

@ Rap Is Cr.ap, if this is your honest opinion & you're not a troll, aren't you lucky to be able to express your very staunch view! Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing! I'm gonna excercise mine & disagree with you! I love rap & hip-hop & have since its inception in 1979 with Sugar Hill Gangs "Rappers Delight!" So many innovative artists, styles & musicians tools have been discovered through rap/ hip-hop!One of the beauties about it is, through sampling you can "marry" the past & the present, pay homage to "old school" & still be on top of "next!" Heavy D was 1 of the heavy hitters for several years & fans are sad! It's sad that you have excluded yourself from experiencing this excellent & modern type of music, but that's your choice! Hope there is music you do like! A life without music is a deprived life!!

Only an ignorant hoe would defend rap words and recommend them for her children to learn. especially when they were all growed up.

I wish I could be the one to perform Heavy D's autopsy. my favorite passtime is popping XANAZ and playing donkey kong ride. I'm from up north, so even if he's dead cold, I'm used to it.

  12. Credible?

Only an willfully ignorant person fails to see the link between overeating and early death. This fat man had a BMI of nealt TWICE that of the avg. adult's over 30 BMI. Anything over 30 is considered to be, not chunky, not overweight, not obese, but OVERLY obese. Who even needs to see an autopsy to show how huge his colon had become or to link his super-duper over obesity with his early death? Is America now so fat that she is blind? Several university studies have shown that lifespans are determined by how many calories a person consumes during the course of their lives, just like a cars engine's life is determined by how much gasoline it goes through. Calories are units of energy just as gallons of gas are. An obese person dies 3-10 years earlier than an healthy person. Heavy D died at least 20 years too soon. Get a freaking clue! Are all of your brains as dead as dead as those wads of undigested red meat stuck in your guts are?

Keep ranting. It's obvious to everyone but you that personal insults destroy your own credibility. Everyone else regards you as the local nutcase, and this is part of the reason.

@ banasy, thanks for the heads up on the Patton troll! I thought his writing seemed familiar! And Wow, you were really there at the Disco Must Die fest!? Sadly, I loved disco too, but even I was tired of it! Rap is too diverse for me to get tired of, yet! Have a good eve!!

Yes, I was. The White Sox were playing a double-header, and they had the demolition in between games. Needless to say, the second game was canceled.
    Oh, it was grand.
