Rapper Heavy D dies at 44

Dwight Arrington Myers, also known as rapper Heavy D, died Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles coroner’s office.

He was 44.

The emergency room staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center pronounced Myers dead "earlier this afternoon," L.A. Coroner Chief of Operations Craig Harvey said.

Myers gained fame in the late 1980s as part of the rap group Heavy D & the Boyz. Driven by the success of the group's first single, "The Overweight Lover's In the House," Heavy D & the Boyz gained national exposure and became a fixture on the hip-hop scene.

Later Myers would turn to acting. He was cast in bit parts in several sitcoms and movies in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

The cause of death is yet to be determined but the coroner's office will begin an investigation.

Wow, what a headline. I would assume if the coroner was involved, the man is, in fact, dead.

Some rapper I've never heard of is on the front page, but the guitarist from GWAR 's death is no where on CNN. That dosen't make sense.

Flattus died? Say it isn't so! Kind of reminds me of Sky Saxon who died on the same day as Michael Jackson. Of course there was no mention of that on CNN either.

Heavy D (HD) was not front page -maybe in the entertainment section.
And of course it makes sense when you consider that HD is linked all the way back -from "old school", and therefore command a greater following. HD has numerous soundtrack(s) themes to his credit.

GWar's Maximums on the other hand has single handily trust GWAR into the world stage light by his sacrificial death; this news was front page on every major email login page and not to mention all of the major news outlets – if you count their entertainment sections front page for all they are worth.

Willy Brown that was BEYOND rude! This man is a legend and will forever be loved by many before during and after his time....if you felt the relevance of this story to your life was so miniscule you should've kept your comment to yourself

How exactly can someone be loved BEFORE his time, Mr. Wizard? I know you're probably blind with rage or so grief stricken over someone you never even met but THINK before you post this nonsense. I'm sure Mr. Myers would have wanted it that way. Word to your mother.
