Rapper Heavy D dies at 44

Dwight Arrington Myers, also known as rapper Heavy D, died Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles coroner’s office.

He was 44.

The emergency room staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center pronounced Myers dead "earlier this afternoon," L.A. Coroner Chief of Operations Craig Harvey said.

Myers gained fame in the late 1980s as part of the rap group Heavy D & the Boyz. Driven by the success of the group's first single, "The Overweight Lover's In the House," Heavy D & the Boyz gained national exposure and became a fixture on the hip-hop scene.

Later Myers would turn to acting. He was cast in bit parts in several sitcoms and movies in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

The cause of death is yet to be determined but the coroner's office will begin an investigation.

Just read alot of ignorant and irrelevant comments about heavy d's death.its really sad that instead of wanting to pray for his family while they are in bereavement right now or not say nothing at all because you do not know him.its not his fault because you were not introduced to his music and are completely oblivious to who he is.and to whoever this concerns no body knows when god is going to call them home its if we knew it would be stated on our birth certificate as a expiration date.rip heavy d you will be missed

My money says he died of a heart attack or stroke. This is common in overweight people who don't exercise. It coulda been a drug overdoze too. Rappers are known to be heavy drug users. RIP Mr. D.
