White House shooting suspect to be charged with assassination attempt

A man accused of firing shots near the White House last week will be charged with attempting to assassinate the president or a member of his staff, a federal prosecutor said Thursday.

Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez, 21, of Idaho, was arrested in western Pennsylvania on Wednesday. Investigators believe he was involved in a shooting Friday night that may be responsible for two bullets found on the White House exterior on Tuesday, according to the Secret Service.

One bullet hit a window and was stopped by bulletproof glass, and another was found on the White House exterior, the Secret Service said.

Ortega-Hernandez will be charged with attempted assassination, Assistant U.S. Attorney Jimmy Kitchen said at Ortega-Hernandez's first federal court hearing Thursday.

Being that this is post-9/11 America, I'm surprised the President didn't just label him a "terrorist" and off him without due process.

Obama is HARDLY a dictator. You might disagree with his policies, but he was elected completely fair and square. Your hyperbole is disgusting and shows no class or intellect.

Correct is shows lack of common sense. But the ones who should be up for arrest for consipary are the right wing media blow hards and politicians who are urging people to do this. If they were treated like they people who perform these acts, because the right wing egged them on are treated as assasains then the urgers should be also. It is time they were stopped. Not liking the president because he is for the people and not corporations, is one thing, but urging people to take shots at him is illegal.

He shot at a WINDOW! That does not sound like an attempt to hit someone to you?

Pretty sure that if you aim and fire a weapon at the white house you aren't trying to hit a janitor.....idiot.

Ok, so he obviously didn't really expect his rounds to connect with a human target. You don't shoot at buildings from that distance with a handgun if you're trying to injure or kill a person. But he did something monumentally stupid and they are probably going to throw the book at him for it. Anyway, what if he actually, accidentally shot someone doing this? Not just the President or anyone else working in the White House, but what if some random person caught a stray bullet? He's a reckless moron and should probably be locked away for awhile to protect everyone, the shooter included.

The charge is a little silly but, hey, he asked for it! That's what you get for shooting at the WH.

This guy should get a spot on that dumbest criminal show. The only possible outcome here was for him to go to jail. He was never going to hit the President. What a dope. Have fun in federal prison.
