The Occupy movement is taking on the biggest retail day of the season, calling on protesters to occupy major retailers on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.
"OCCUPY BLACK FRIDAY by occupying/boycotting large chain stores and publicly traded retail" is the message posted on the website stopblackfriday.com.
The movement contends that 1% of the country is making money at the expense of the other 99%.
"The credit cards the 99% overcharge will allow the 1% to enrich themselves gluttonously on the backs of hardworking people who simply want to provide a memorable time for their families," the website says.
"So just imagine what would happen to the 1% if the 99% did not spend on Black Friday."
The site asks protesters to target only "publicly traded large businesses" and support small businesses "that serve our local communities."
The site lists Abercrombie & Fitch, Amazon.com, AT&T Wireless, Burlington Coat Factory, Dick's Sporting Goods, Dollar Tree, The Home Depot, Neiman Marcus, Office Max, Toys "R" Us, Verizon Wireless and Wal-Mart as businesses that should be boycotted or occupied.
"We are NOT anti-capitalist, just anti-crapitalist," the site says.
Are you participating in an Occupy Black Friday protest? Send your iReport.
Who is the marketing director for this protest? This has to be the dumbest thing yet from the OWS and they have been pretty dumb.
Corporate Lingo from someone out of touch with what the OWS movement is all about, its not about becoming a Corporation with any kind of "director" or "CEO"
...as businesses that should be boycotted or occupied. Hmmmm so we have a choice – go their or not go there...
From its beginning, OWS does not represent the 99%. How can they make this came when they are attentionaly getting in the way of working class and middle class Americans from trying to provide for their families? What right do they have to tell me, a member of the 99%, when and where I can shop?
Brian, never say "attentionally" again. It's not a word.
What some idiot writes in a Blog is not news. My is CNN supporting this movement by amplifying their message by giving it broad media coverage.?
Time to bring along a spring baton and maybe some pepper spray...Happy Thanksgiving, turds!
Better hurry back to your double-wide. Nascar's on.
Further proof these morons have no idea what they are protesting about. And not for nothing, it is the AMERICAN CONSUMER that drives Black Friday, not the corporations.
OK...I'm thinking you shut down all the 'PUBLIC' companies (where little old me has a say/vote and drive down tax revenues and retirement funds) and the chain stores (who cater to the masses (99%) so only the botiques are allowed to cater to the 1%. I would love to see what your success would look like. Your bank account would take a hit at some point and fewer would be able to give to it (ooops..shot in the foot there)- fewer tax revenues for social programs and a greater need to push taxation down to the lower earners (ouch). Shopping at those places who you now support charge more for their goods so purchasing power is reduced. LOL. Who screwed the heads on these guys. Somebody give them an economics app for the holidays. 🙂
The Occupy movement is promoting small businesses and financial responsibility. Consumer debt is a major problem in this country. But if you're a Gingrich fan, by all means, enslave yourself to Chase Bank so you can have a bunch of plastic Chinese crap under your Christmas tree. Happy birthday, Jesus.
I bet theyll still go to the Apple store and "overcharge"
But really how silly is it to blame someone else for your own irresponsable spending habits. If you dont like using the cost of using someone elses money then use your own.
"The credit cards the 99% overcharge will allow the 1% to enrich themselves gluttonously on the backs of hardworking people who simply want to provide a memorable time for their families,"
God these people are Dumb, yes boycott, so less demand and more layoffs..smartmove.. Why dont they join together pool there money and start there own business
You gluttonous society will fall into the debts of china and we will take over your country one business at a time.
I have job. I support OWS and take part in their marches and protests. Most of the other people involved are employed. We're not looking for handouts. We're looking to curtail the insane influence that banks and other large corporations have over the government. They gain this influence through large donations and other forms of legal and semi-legal bribery. Both parties are owned by corporations. That's the complaint.
Assuming that we're something that we're not and arguing against your own mistaken perception is a bad way of trying to understand the world. If you're making things up about us just to push your own politics, that's even worse.
Try protesting the real problem- the Government. Occupy has no focus and most do not even understand why they are protesting. The corporations could care less. Sometimes the top branches have to be cut in order to bring a tree down.
understand the full 'curtailment' before thinking you have th answers. Clearly actions taken show lack of knowledge- there are always both positives and negatives. Focusing on negatives only is always dangerous and a mistake.
OCCUPYAJOB
There aren't any thanks to the republicans.
LoL @palinnimwit...there's plenty of jobs...you're just probably to stupid or lazy to qualify for
"The movement contends that 1% of the country is making money at the expense of the other 99%." So Target doesn't make money to also pay their employees who would also be the 99%? The employees must work for free. These occupy people are complete idiots. Go get a job you lazy morons.
Do you think Occupiers actaully read CNN? They just scribble in cave walls.
