The Occupy movement is taking on the biggest retail day of the season, calling on protesters to occupy major retailers on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.
"OCCUPY BLACK FRIDAY by occupying/boycotting large chain stores and publicly traded retail" is the message posted on the website stopblackfriday.com.
The movement contends that 1% of the country is making money at the expense of the other 99%.
"The credit cards the 99% overcharge will allow the 1% to enrich themselves gluttonously on the backs of hardworking people who simply want to provide a memorable time for their families," the website says.
"So just imagine what would happen to the 1% if the 99% did not spend on Black Friday."
The site asks protesters to target only "publicly traded large businesses" and support small businesses "that serve our local communities."
The site lists Abercrombie & Fitch, Amazon.com, AT&T Wireless, Burlington Coat Factory, Dick's Sporting Goods, Dollar Tree, The Home Depot, Neiman Marcus, Office Max, Toys "R" Us, Verizon Wireless and Wal-Mart as businesses that should be boycotted or occupied.
"We are NOT anti-capitalist, just anti-crapitalist," the site says.

Lets do this! The 1% have been praying off x-mass to long.
This makes absolutely no sense at all. The retailers are not the 1% (OK a few CEOs of the really big majors might be, but not the other 99.7% that work in retail). These are not the people raking in millions of dollars in bonuses at the expense of the small time investors or people with loans. I feel this will hurt the movement!
"During the first two months of the nationwide Occupy protests, the movement that is demanding more out of the wealthiest Americans cost local taxpayers at least $13 million in police overtime and other municipal services, according to a survey by The Associated Press."
Now I guess OW protesters will cost merchants money which will be passed on to the consumer because of the disruption in sales for the stores which employs hard working people who pay the taxes used in the last two months on overtime for police and city services that the OW prortesters cost. Now that’s freedom!
Consumerism ! What dont you get ! You cant expect everything to go the way you demand. You can tell that fanatics are running the world. They like to play God over our lives like it really is going to happen. I bet they would like us all dressed in brown shirts and pants too .Maybe we can bow down while we are at it ehh !
I cant tell you how proud I am of the folks that have taken to the street. Continue to define your message and keep the faith and love in your hearts. The issue of Black Friday isn't the money that the upper 1% are making money during the season but rather that "The Free Market" is trading family holidays as if they are commodities with no regards to the human spirit. I remember when stores were actually closed on Sunday because people believed it was time to be with god, family and friends. I am sorry that I did not have the courage to stand up back then and take to the streets but I'm with you this time. God bless.
I didn't know that Black Friday fell on a Sunday.
It doesn't, Sunday was just the precursor to where we are now.
Hopefully some Occupiers get trampled.
Maybe they'll kick you in the head on their way down.
You must be one of the “RELIGIOUS” conservatives.
Maybe PWS should occupy hospitals. I'm sure there are 1%s out there.
This is a more dangerous move and yet it directly affects profit,
...GO young Warriors your are my Heroes!
HaHahahahahahahaha....Think Less Do More...How can you/OWS think less when you only have one brain cells to work with?
ummm....why doesn't everyone just go on a cash basis system and only buy what they can actually afford?????
That would be way too sensible.
Occupy Welfare
You must be one of the “RELIGIOUS” conservatives. They like to preach to give to others, yet they always do the opposite.
Just a ploy to gain legitimacy by claiming that the thousands and thousands of people across the country waiting for the stores to open are actually part of the hundreds protesting.
Excellent point. It's all part of the thugs who are running OWS. Us every dirty, underhanded, illegal tactic in the little red Mao book of destruction of an economy by acting as the fold, yet are the vicious wolves.
I feel sorry for ANYONE who gets between my wife and her holiday shopping ...
Go ahead protest BlackFriday but step in my way and I have my own pepper spray....losers, stop feeding off tax payers money, find a real protest that will accomplish something and MOVE ON!!
Yep and no one even seems to be talking about how people making more than $34k a year ARE the 1% in the world. Making over $14k a year puts you in the top 5%, well below our poverty line. All I see from OWS is greed fighting greed. Who is sticking up for the real 99% while these people sip lattes?
Ask yourself, If you really cared about the poor, what would you do? Would you "occupy" something, or would you give up your time, money, ect. to help someone in need?
Can we please put a cloud of Pepper Spray onto these idots, and get on with LIFE........... I mean REALITY
OWS-er's need to put their energy to better use, like helping the elderly, volunteering to help build a home with Habitat for Humanity, Feed The Children and be pro-active in taking care their neighbors - I don't care about the 1%, Steve Jobs was in the 1% and look how much he contributed to society, the same can be said of many other 1%'ers. We'll always have people in the 1% bracket, they probably earned every penny - so, to all of the OWS-er's, get off the streets and go be productive!
