Occupy targets retailers on Black Friday
The Occupy movement is taking on the biggest retail day of the season, calling on protesters to occupy major retailers on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.
"OCCUPY BLACK FRIDAY by occupying/boycotting large chain stores and publicly traded retail" is the message posted on the website stopblackfriday.com.
The movement contends that 1% of the country is making money at the expense of the other 99%.
"The credit cards the 99% overcharge will allow the 1% to enrich themselves gluttonously on the backs of hardworking people who simply want to provide a memorable time for their families," the website says.
"So just imagine what would happen to the 1% if the 99% did not spend on Black Friday."
The site asks protesters to target only "publicly traded large businesses" and support small businesses "that serve our local communities."
The site lists Abercrombie & Fitch, Amazon.com, AT&T Wireless, Burlington Coat Factory, Dick's Sporting Goods, Dollar Tree, The Home Depot, Neiman Marcus, Office Max, Toys "R" Us, Verizon Wireless and Wal-Mart as businesses that should be boycotted or occupied.
"We are NOT anti-capitalist, just anti-crapitalist," the site says.

These occupiers may be biting off more than can chew on this escapade. These black friday shoppers are some serious people, and if you get between them and their bargains you are just asking for trouble.
If you've ever been out on the black fiday ventures, you know what I mean.
These people will fight you over a toothbrush.

This "occupy" movement needs to be stopped once and for all. The stupid people have had their spotlight time, and it is time to put it to a rest. These people DO NOT represent anyone, but the people that want more with doing less! These groups are nothing more than "public terrorists", with no idea of what they truely are trying to achieve. Get them off the streets now.....whatever means necassary!

I have $98,000 in student loan debt. I majored in Womens Studies and now nobody will hire me. I could join the military, but that is beneath me. I went to NYU, I deserve a high paying job. This is all Walmart's fault. I am the 99%.

These people just do not get it. Where do they think the "99%" work? If the businesses fail, the 99% fails. I am in the top 25%...upper middle class I suppose...but I guess that also means I am in the "99%". Do not try to speak for me. I didn't have anything handed out to me. I have student loans, but also majored in a marketable field. I don't want ANYONE taxed for my benefit. I think the "rich" pay too much in taxes...I think the "middle class" pays too much in taxes, and I think the "poor" do not pay any taxes at all. Since the "poor" do not pay income taxes, I fail to see how the level at which everyone else is taxes impacts the poor. Educate me OWS protestors. Bear in mind I have a BA & Masters in Public Administration.
@Jon Michael: It's not fair that you make more money than me. I believe no human is better than any other. We are all created equal. Therefore, you should share some of your salary with me so we can be on equal footing. This is the only fair way. I am the 99%.
Reading all these ignorant comments reminds me why I've considered moving to Europe. I feel like leaving what's left of America's carcass to the hyper-consuming, cognitively-lazy, pseudo-patriotic wolves so they can fight over the scraps.

These Occupy protesters have no idea what kind of trouble they will start, specifically if they go to Walmart. There are desperate people there who will punch, scream, lie, torture, kill for that bargain that cuts 50 bucks off a TV. These proclaimed "99%" protesters don't realize that there is also a bottom 1%. Their laws of civil engagement are different than ours. While they silently protest, these bottom 1% will throw bottles of beer they were drinking as "pre-game" to Walmart Black Friday.

It is laughable to see that OWS thinks that someone who works at the retail level should make 'xyz' in compensation/pay based on their lack of experience in 'anything' in reality. You see, few people expect a 'retail' job to be a career, although YES it could turn into one if you work hard and make the right choices. I started in retail, yes it was not exactly what I dreamed of getting out of college to make my $5.50/hour. However, it started me down my path and fast forward I may not be in the 1% but I'm in the top 7%.
Funny though, it started when I was 15 washing dishes and mopping floors, doing those jobs that most kids today won't do because they are too good for it. Yes, my boss made A LOT more than I did as he should have, he took the risk to run his business and the only thing I did was show up to mop floors/wash dishes. He paid me the 'market rate' and if I did not like it, I was free to go. Oddly, I never blamed him for anything, it kept me motivated to get through school so I could end up with my $5.50/hour job in retail which may not have been the best thing in life but yet I DID IT.
I'm so sick of these people thinking that they are worth something they are not, they are worth what their job demand is, they are worth the SKILLS they have learned and if they have no skills, they are worthless! You don't start at the top, you start at the bottom and work your way up, it has been that way for generations. The only difference now is mommy and daddy promised you the world on a silve platter and now you see it is ONLY possible if you stop blaming everyone else and work hard and pay off your debt, take whatever job you can get and start your life.

Imagine that, somebody working hard from the ground up, putting their time in. Asking how can I be successfull, not complaining about not making enough money. I bet Tiger Woods worked really hard at golf, and now he is one of the best in the world. We are a spoiled country that has lost touch with the values and conviction that made us the envy of the world. We need to clean house and take back our country; for our children for our future. I am nowhere near a 1% but OWS needs to look at the people they are really hurting and waste they are creating. I applaud their determination but question their motives. They want to occupy the Dollar Store? Really, cause that is what is wrong with America.

What about protesting against retail stores that are open on Thanksgiving Day itself. For the most part, people being forced to work that day are in the low-middle class or below and would probably prefer being home with their families.
