The Occupy movement is taking on the biggest retail day of the season, calling on protesters to occupy major retailers on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.
"OCCUPY BLACK FRIDAY by occupying/boycotting large chain stores and publicly traded retail" is the message posted on the website stopblackfriday.com.
The movement contends that 1% of the country is making money at the expense of the other 99%.
"The credit cards the 99% overcharge will allow the 1% to enrich themselves gluttonously on the backs of hardworking people who simply want to provide a memorable time for their families," the website says.
"So just imagine what would happen to the 1% if the 99% did not spend on Black Friday."
The site asks protesters to target only "publicly traded large businesses" and support small businesses "that serve our local communities."
The site lists Abercrombie & Fitch, Amazon.com, AT&T Wireless, Burlington Coat Factory, Dick's Sporting Goods, Dollar Tree, The Home Depot, Neiman Marcus, Office Max, Toys "R" Us, Verizon Wireless and Wal-Mart as businesses that should be boycotted or occupied.
"We are NOT anti-capitalist, just anti-crapitalist," the site says.

nice argument, moron
I never shop on Black Friday, but I may have to just to have a good excuse to kick an OWS in the head.
People shold boycott Walmart because they contribute over 50 percent of our trade deficit with China, one reason they sell for less is they sell cheap chinese crap all over their store.
If we could all take an extra 5 seconds and flip over the box or look at the tag and see WHERE the product is made, and try to stay away from China, that would be worth doing. All we are doing is sending our cash overseas and then they use that money to buy our treasury bills that we sell because we can't balance our budget. So they are giving it to us both ways.
the stuff they sell that says made in USA is actually made on u.s. territories like the American Samoan islands, which employ slave labor.
Walmart is the problem!
Well I disagree with the equal wealth distribution, that sounds communist to me. However, the limiting control of corporations over our government is a good idea. In fact, it's a great idea. Protesting black friday? Just another attempt for more attention to the leaderless movement. They need a smart leader, clear mission statement and learn to work with the police and public if they want anyone to listen to them seriously. Camping out is silly. If they want to protest they should acquire a permit from city hall just like all other advocacy groups do.
THEY HAVE A LEADER? IT IS OBAMA BUT HE IS NOT SMART UNLESS HE HAS A TELEPROMOTER. TOO BAD IT BACKFIRED ON HIM. THESE WELFARE NUTS WENT VIOLENT!
I wish people would actually do research before they start throwing 'communism' around. Communism doesn't mean each person has exactly the same thing as their neighbor. 'To each as he needs, from each as he produces'. Communism is basically taking family structure and extending it to a national level. Of course, it never work well at that large a base. But if your dad makes money and your mom takes care of the house and kids and the kids do the dishes and the trash, that's pretty much communism in a nutshell. Redistribution of wealth is only used when people like CEO's who provide little societal benefit are forced to give up their insane riches to help people who can barely afford to eat on two jobs raising kids. Sorry, I won't feel bad if they get taxed more.
Anarchy does not always need a leader. I don't think the French Revolution had one and look how great that one turned out. It seems to me the Tea Party is like the American Revolution and Occupy-Whatever is more like the French Revolution.
buschwc is the one who needs to do a little research.
Communism-in every country that has adopted it-has led not to "basically taking family structure and extending it to a national level" but to the power-greedy using OWS-style nonsense about "it's not fair!" to justify taking what they think they deserve from those who actually produce it.
And when the productive complain-in every communist country this has happened-they get the gulag labor camp and the secret policeman's bullet in the back of their neck and the neighborhood informant reporting to the State Committee on their "socially irresponsible" tendencies and talk.
Communists are monsters. Shoot them on sight.
These people seem not to care that they are interfering with the rights of others. This why in the end this movement will fail.
this idiotic movement has already failed, badly. Terrorizing minimum-wage tellers in bank branches (typically immigrants) is their way of protesting corrupt Wall Street traders? Get a clue.
I'm sick and tired of OWS. First, prevent merchants from selling their goods, i.e. from earning a living? Are these merchants bankers on Wall Street? No. Prevent buyers from making purchases that may be for family and relatives for the holidays? Sorry, that's not protest but obstruction. When protest interferes with the ability of others to live their lives then it's not protest but breaking the law. Were the dock workings in Oakland part of the 1%? Were the merchants who were expecting those goods part of the 1%? How about the people who were to purchase those goods that never left the docks during that blockage? Were they part of the 1%? And who are the 1%? Well, the richest people in our country are not bankers on Wall Street, they're business people and doctors and lawyers who, for the most part, are honest people who have worked hard and sacrificed a lot to get where they are. And the 99%? OWS does not speak for anyone but maybe the bottom 1% if that. I doubt those in OWS even know that the bottom of the 1% make under $500,000 (in 2009 the bottom of the 1% made less than $400,000).
When I joined the Army as a Private in the beginning of the 70s, my take home pay was less than $80. Before that I was a construction worker making over $100 a week. Big pay change. But I was proud of what I was doing and didn't complain about those who made more. In the mid-70s I decided I wanted more so I took college courses (15-18 credits per semester all year) while taking care of a family and doing my military work. It was hard and required sacrifice but it paid off and I became an officer. As an officer, I later decided I wanted to prepare myself for retirement so went for my masters and doctorate while doing my military duties and taking care of my family. That was very hard and required a lot of sacrifice from everyone but when I retired, I found a good job making good money. THAT's what it takes to be in the 1% – drive, hard work and sacrifice. Although at 60 I don't have the drive to become part of the 1% (or even the top 5%), but I'm happy with what I've achieved and don't complain about what others have. That's something losers do, people who don't have the drive or chops for hard work and, when necessary, sacrifice. They remind me of hippies of the 60s who were also looking for handouts.
"Boom"! You just lost your leg defending big corporations right to make money. Was all your hard work and effort worth it?
Sounds like his hard work was defending your freedom to be a gibbering idiot child.
I burned my draft card in the early 70's.
Imagine if you couldn't afford that education because the price of college had increased dramatically and your wages had not. Imagine you were 100% qualified to get a job, but there were far fewer opportunities because someone else had used unethical practices to get rich. What you did is extremely admirable (and thank you for your service), but the United States has changed since you worked your way up. There's someone just like you who's young and trying to do what you did, but they can't because of what the 1% have done in their own self-interest.
This movement is so far off base now. How about "Occupying a Job"
wow, such harshness. to think I put my life on the line on a daily basis for the like of pukes like you.
Guess they think the retailers should be giving them free stuff to go with their free cars and free houses that they want.
it's called a checkbook. look into it and get back to me. no one said you needed to buy all that crap you can't afford. and credit card interest isn't something new. be accountable.
Thats the answer, protest companies being treated like people. Why not make that the focus of OWS. Business can be regulated like businesses, people can keep their jobs, and OWS won;t be seen as a bunch of misguided children running around in the street. Get organized, get focused, make plans, and get out of the street. Oh, and don't annoy everyone else on the holidays, get a life of your own.
OWS = "We disapprove of a certain behavior; therefore, we will prevent it." Simply put, it's tyranny.
These occuppants should read some history or just some godd books. Small buisness owners were always backbone of totalitairan regimes or faoundation for the church power. Go occupy Wallmart – instead of Gucci? Or we taking about fancy dely shop near the campus? With all my respect to local goat chese with $30 a pound price tag – this can't feed the people they so eagerly protecting. I think they are total idiots. Do they really undersand what needs to be done to feed, heat and dress 7 billion people? Do they really think this is possible with local buisness shops? Send them all to North Korea or Venezuela.
