Occupy targets retailers on Black Friday

The Occupy movement is taking on the biggest retail day of the season, calling on protesters to occupy major retailers on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.

"OCCUPY BLACK FRIDAY by occupying/boycotting large chain stores and publicly traded retail" is the message posted on the website stopblackfriday.com.

The movement contends that 1% of the country is making money at the expense of the other 99%.

"The credit cards the 99% overcharge will allow the 1% to enrich themselves gluttonously on the backs of hardworking people who simply want to provide a memorable time for their families," the website says.

"So just imagine what would happen to the 1% if the 99% did not spend on Black Friday."

The site asks protesters to target only "publicly traded large businesses" and support small businesses "that serve our local communities."

The site lists Abercrombie & Fitch, Amazon.com, AT&T Wireless, Burlington Coat Factory, Dick's Sporting Goods, Dollar Tree, The Home Depot, Neiman Marcus, Office Max, Toys "R" Us, Verizon Wireless and Wal-Mart as businesses that should be boycotted or occupied.

"We are NOT anti-capitalist, just anti-crapitalist," the site says.

I'm part of the 98% – neither the 1% super-rich, nor the 1% "Occupy" whack-jobs who need to look for ways to solve problems not create new ones.

I support the Occupiers for various reasons. 1) There are no real "deals" on Black Friday. Everything is priced twice as high as its value and then a 50% sale sign slapped on it. Why pay the same price for the hassel and the item is not worth the value anyway. 2) Most of the stuff is junk make in China, India, Vietnam and of little quality. Why would I support the Chinese government by buying their junk. 3) Why would I support retailers that have purchased goods from China that helps China. 4) Why would I support retailers that give to PACs for favors? 5. Why would I support the banks tied to the retailers that support other countries economies and not the USA? Will it hurt the retailers? I doubt very much but you have to take a stand on do you support America or do you support China, India, Vietnam, and Banks.

From the Washington Post, showing how little respect these OWS people have for everyone who works and pays taxes:

"Dylan Bozlee, of Hilo, Hawaii, has his foot taped by volunteer EMT David McClintock of Philadelphia at the Occupy Philadelphia encampment at City Hall on Nov. 15. Bozlee dropped out of college at the University of Hawaii to join Occupy, and says he’d rather travel across America than get a job. “Do I want to work? Only if I wanted a home, wife, kids and a dog. If not, I think you’re ruining your life,” he said. Before the march, Bozlee was a member of the Class Warfare camp at Zuccotti Park in New York, where he says he joined other anarchists in teaching passersby about the concept of warfare of the lower classes against the upper class."

Dylan is going to get an unpleasant surprise when the working class gets fed up listening to his bloodthirsty BS and some working class veterans introduce him to the realities of warfare.

They are right. Everyone complains about how these chain stores, corporate stores pay low wages and sell foreign made products, but what do they do, they keep shopping their. How stupid is that? We should support our local stores. It is a little more expensive, but not by much. I have a friends who owns a game store. He can't sell games like monopoly or life and a few others because he cannot compete with walmart and target. He can't buy in bulk like they can so he can't get his price down enough. Either do the right thing, or shut up.

These occupiers are total morons. No one shopping at walmart is part of the 1% – so these idiots are going to ruin the day for the average working Joe trying to get a deal.

Hang it up occupiers, you look like fools. no one supports you.

Well Matt, if you look at the latest polls, a big section of the U.S do support this movement.

Actually the latest poll states over 63% of Americans do not support the Occupiers. Not that they have been getting bad press, the poll takers have skewed poll data yet again. I'm willing to bet 85% do not support these clowns.

I hope OWS continues to do this. THEY are 1%, and they are ticking off the other 99%. Now they blame stores for people buying stuff they can't afford? And do people only buy stuff they can't afford at major retailers? I doubt it. These people are nuts.

I support most of what OWS stands for, but this is just stupid. If people want to overspend their means, it's their own fault, not the fault of JCPenney or whoever. This is like blaming McDonald's for making you fat.

It also takes away from the main message, which is that the 1% own our country's politicians and therefore our laws. Black Friday has nothing to do with politics.
