The Occupy movement is taking on the biggest retail day of the season, calling on protesters to occupy major retailers on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.
"OCCUPY BLACK FRIDAY by occupying/boycotting large chain stores and publicly traded retail" is the message posted on the website stopblackfriday.com.
The movement contends that 1% of the country is making money at the expense of the other 99%.
"The credit cards the 99% overcharge will allow the 1% to enrich themselves gluttonously on the backs of hardworking people who simply want to provide a memorable time for their families," the website says.
"So just imagine what would happen to the 1% if the 99% did not spend on Black Friday."
The site asks protesters to target only "publicly traded large businesses" and support small businesses "that serve our local communities."
The site lists Abercrombie & Fitch, Amazon.com, AT&T Wireless, Burlington Coat Factory, Dick's Sporting Goods, Dollar Tree, The Home Depot, Neiman Marcus, Office Max, Toys "R" Us, Verizon Wireless and Wal-Mart as businesses that should be boycotted or occupied.
"We are NOT anti-capitalist, just anti-crapitalist," the site says.

On an unrelated topic its ok to say that michelle Bachman must apologize for being born but not ok to say the drummer for Jimmy Fallon was a recipient of affirmative action!
Marcus Bachmann is gay.
yes – so what?
THINK PEOPLE – When you spend on Black Friday – say on a TV just follow the money – If you buy the $250 TV from Walmart and put it on your credit card that money now goes to Walmart and the interest goes to your bank then some of that money goes to the supplier of that TV and to the manufacturer of that TV who is in Asia somewhere the money also goes to the oil company who makes the gas for the ships who brings the TVs to America. The money also goes to the stock holders of Walmart and the oil company and the shipping company and to the 1%
Not much of that money goes back into America or our workers or to the 99% – this creates a business model that can not sustain its self. By eliminating jobs and shipping them over seas stockholders and businesses reduce costs but they also eliminate a section of our economy the consumer. If people dont have jobs they cant pay for things so stores have less. They cant pay their mortgage so banks have less – if banks have less they cant give loans – if banks cant make loans businesses fail AND THE WHOLE THING STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN
Stop stop buying stuff and STFU, then.
POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

All these liberals that live are addicted to the credit card wiil go into DT;s if they have to go a few days without using one.
OK, this is my opinion, but I do not think this is really linked to OWS, just jumpin the name. Checked out the site, it's as if a bunch of kids put it together. No offense, but this would do better as a joke.
You're right. I don't see any affiliation with OWS on the site. This is either bad journalism or it's a deliberate attempt to start lumping everyone together.
WHAT A BUNCH OF IDIOTS!!! HOW CAN THESE MORONS BE SO STUPID.
well, you are replying to this.
Find the Money Source and you have you answer. However I wouldnt take CNN's word for it anyway.
Why don't these oxygen thieves go occupy the train tracks on Friday. That would show the 1%...
Several comments here about the "1%" who make ALL the money....while the other "99%" work, have jobs and are living paycheck to paycheck.......it's simply math..addition & subtraction.....while the "99%"ers are SPENDING their hard earn money.....the "1%" are SAVING money......it's very simple.....you first must ask......Who do you work for???...It's not a trick question......YOU work for......YOURSELF.....so....you pay YOURSELF FIRST. The 1%ers GET this and DO IT........the 99%ers do NOT and thus are spending their money.....and more times than not.....their money that they have not even RECEIVED YET.....and thus the vicious cycle perpetuates itself.....like the definition of eternity.
they don't get it Cheetah, we are living in the times of "its someone elses fault" , no personal responsiblity and the everyone gets a trophy generation.
reality is hard for them to figure out.
Ran into an issue at one of our local retailers due to this reason. Forget going to the store any more. I was looking for a Monster High doll for by daughter and got trapped behind a movement. Already spent hours driving around. Went home, got online and searched for sites to help. Found at http://instockhere.com/productCat/monster. Cyber Monday here I come!
hey Occupy, go F yourselves
you're a joke and a nuisance and your little circus is over
do you know how many jobs the retail sector supplies?
get a F in clue
Ah you Americans are so entertaining. Does any other country have such a diverse array of thinkers and non thinkers?
America has to realize that it has a responsibility as the major economic power in the world. And that responsibility is not to enforce consumerism or a "throw-away" society. The impact on not only the environment, but clearly on the small businesses that need to compete with the Walmarts of the world. There needs to be a paradigm shift. Get out of consumerism and into a form of minimalism. This frees up time and man power that can be used towards great ideas to solve major conflicts. Imagine if 1/3 of your workforce dedicated their time to solving world hunger, or on an energy source 1% of the cost and material it takes to produce and refine oil. Ya i know some of this sounds "out there" but if the bottom line is only toward profit, I fear for the future.
Did someone ask North Ohio for its opinion?
I didn't think so.
I'm not Canadian but I do enjoy visiting your country and interacting with your people. Sort of "laid back" and "stay out of other peoples business" culture. Yes, we are buyers and hoarders here and it seems to have become a way of life. Why else "Black Friday" where greed and consumption are at the forefront? Before someone asks me if I like the Canadians so much why I don't move to Canada. Simple answer. I do love my Country and even if I wanted to I can't afford to move. My retirement funds have been squandered by the banks and politicians.
I did want to mention that I don't have any bias toward Americans in general, and I'm always moved by how so many of you are willing to join the marines and fight for your country, although I will say i'm not a fan of the way your government uses you once you join 🙂
But regarding the OWS movement, I completely agree their right to protest and am scarred by the abuse they have had to endure these past few weeks. The right to protest is one of the most basic of rights. If you don't have a voice, you don't matter.
Sadly Canada is growing less tolerate of peaceful protests as well, evidence of which can be found watching the video "Toronto, G20 Exposed"
Drew – bitter because your tattoos and piercings leave you stuck working at Hot Topic, are we?
If they really want to do some good. They should target the UN>
