Occupy targets retailers on Black Friday

The Occupy movement is taking on the biggest retail day of the season, calling on protesters to occupy major retailers on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.

"OCCUPY BLACK FRIDAY by occupying/boycotting large chain stores and publicly traded retail" is the message posted on the website stopblackfriday.com.

The movement contends that 1% of the country is making money at the expense of the other 99%.

"The credit cards the 99% overcharge will allow the 1% to enrich themselves gluttonously on the backs of hardworking people who simply want to provide a memorable time for their families," the website says.

"So just imagine what would happen to the 1% if the 99% did not spend on Black Friday."

The site asks protesters to target only "publicly traded large businesses" and support small businesses "that serve our local communities."

The site lists Abercrombie & Fitch, Amazon.com, AT&T Wireless, Burlington Coat Factory, Dick's Sporting Goods, Dollar Tree, The Home Depot, Neiman Marcus, Office Max, Toys "R" Us, Verizon Wireless and Wal-Mart as businesses that should be boycotted or occupied.

"We are NOT anti-capitalist, just anti-crapitalist," the site says.

What about if you overcharge your card at your local mom&pop shops even more so because they usually charge more?

C'mon bao ... everyone knows that you're not "responsible" for running up your own debt. Its clearly someone elses fault that you bought more stuff than you can afford.

In a recent article aired by CNN, it was reported that President Obama was heckled by OWS protesters while talking about jobs on the road. I just wonder if these hecklers were really OWS protester or rather Tea Party activists trying to give the impression that OWS is against the President but for the rightwing teapugs in congress who are blocking a jobs bill and defending the wealthy. Shame on you people!

Sorry Joe but I hate to tell you that the "Jobs" package that has stalled in Congress is nothing more than Obama's "shovel ready projects stimulus" redux. It didn't work the first time so why pile MORE debt and taxes on the people with a jobs package that has no hope of creating any jobs????

Gee, here's a thought: Pay with cash or credit, instead of charging money on a credit card. Buying isn't the problem we have, it's spending money we DON'T have that has landed us in this fine mess.

Buying from these stores, who import ALL their goods, who export all our jobs except for retail, who don't treat the employees they DO have right...that's the problem, too. Not just your mode of payment.

I agree. If you can't afford the product don't buy it. Certainly don't put it on a high interest credit card then complain about the interest you're paying.

Gee, here's another thought. Let's send a message to the predatory corporations that they can stick their Black Friday deals where the tail feathers grow. The fat A$$ed overfed, over insured and over compensated executives are home with their families while what's left of the working people get shafted with no benefits and sweat shop pay.

@ Don Jones, I bust my hump to make a good wage, be insured, and protect my family. Why do you not have these things? Maybe you should have studied harder in school, gone to college, picked a better major, done better in college, interviewed better when exiting, set yourself apart to potential employers, worked harder at your job, exceed expectations, do I need to go on?

I agree, all of these protestors should stop their crying. Some of them may have tried to find employment but I bet most of them are using the protest movement as an excuse for not looking for a job. Every protestor needs to be thankful for what they have and stop drowning in self inflicted misery. Grow up, act like an adult and go find a job. I get out of bed every morning and go to work. I am successful because I do not over spend, I am not caught up in the retail hype, I take responsibility for my actions. This country is loaded with people who like to blame others. I suggest that these protestors look in the mirror, take accountability for their lot in life, stop crying and become productive citizens.

Judging from the comments it does not appear that OWS represents anywhere close to 99%. In fact, I am not sure they represent 9%.
