Occupy targets retailers on Black Friday

The Occupy movement is taking on the biggest retail day of the season, calling on protesters to occupy major retailers on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.

"OCCUPY BLACK FRIDAY by occupying/boycotting large chain stores and publicly traded retail" is the message posted on the website stopblackfriday.com.

The movement contends that 1% of the country is making money at the expense of the other 99%.

"The credit cards the 99% overcharge will allow the 1% to enrich themselves gluttonously on the backs of hardworking people who simply want to provide a memorable time for their families," the website says.

"So just imagine what would happen to the 1% if the 99% did not spend on Black Friday."

The site asks protesters to target only "publicly traded large businesses" and support small businesses "that serve our local communities."

The site lists Abercrombie & Fitch, Amazon.com, AT&T Wireless, Burlington Coat Factory, Dick's Sporting Goods, Dollar Tree, The Home Depot, Neiman Marcus, Office Max, Toys "R" Us, Verizon Wireless and Wal-Mart as businesses that should be boycotted or occupied.

"We are NOT anti-capitalist, just anti-crapitalist," the site says.

I want every one of those protesters to take their shirt off and take a look at where it was made. If it says anything other than Made in USA then you need to burn your shirt, go home and educate yourself.

What the &^%^&% is wrong with these people? What are they buying their kids for Christmas? Oh, I forgot, they don't believe in Christmas. Well one thing is certain: they're not going to be happy until all there is for Christmas is granola and hemp shirts. And those shirts BETTER be fair trade!

I'm sorry this is far from a hippie movement. This is a communist movement.
They don't even know why they are doing what they are doing, but they are trying their hardest to make sure other people in the USA lose their jobs too! Thanks a million why don't the occupy landfills.

There are other places to shop for kids' Christmas gifts. Why not show a little love to your local Mom-and-Pop store?

Are you kidding me with this? I am so sick of these idiots! If the "99%" did not shop on Black Friday than the economy would suffer even further than it already is. Black Friday brings in a lot of money for the economy and helps it function at a stronger pace. Not to mention, all the big retailers that hire thousands of workers for the holiday season would not have that chance if there were no shoppers to purchase items. It would also probably cause stores to lay off more people in that case. Why dont these morons learn how things work in the real world before they start making claims and trying to become even more useless than they already are. Maybe its not the rich that are the problem, maybe its the lazy people that would rather protest than try to find work.

America is in 12 trillion dollar bad debt. Flat broke country. Should the U.S government wipe out MILLIONAIRES BY 2012?

Our city, companies, and hollywood is running out innovations.

see the new OWS rule that consensus is reached only via a 90% agreement. Now that's hilarious...probably takes 1/2 a day just to decide to vote on something......These people are really interesting....ran into quite a few of these types in my college days 30 years ago....probably a good % of them are still there running up college debt and now on their 5th liberal arts major........oh well

I make it a practice to never (ever) shop on Black Friday. But this year–as my own protest against the Occupy Idiots–I will be doing all my holiday shopping on Black Friday.

What an absolutely stupid move on the part of these idiots. Seriously? You think that only your so-called "1%" shop Black Friday? You're going to interfere with the small percentage of Americans (on the day when they're trying to save money because of the poor economy!) who have even tepid support for your stupid protest? Yah. Maybe you should "occupy" a psychiatrist while you're at it.

How about not shopping on Black Friday. As long as we consume without end, our country has little future. Instead of buying something made in China, go help a child to read.

So let's keep those 99% workers from getting their commissions, paychecks, and bonuses. Good plan.

i'm going to go down to our local OWS tent city at 3am with an air horn and let her rip every 20 mins. Then i'm going to organize a game of ultimate frisbee with a bunch of my friends and just play and knock over their tents while playing (all by accident of course). it's my civil disobedience, i'm sure they'll be fully supportive.

nothing is gonna happen to the 1%. whats gonna happen is that folks in the 99% are gonna loose shifts and even jobs because of bonehead decisions !
if you wanna have a memorable time for your family, you dont HAVE TO spend money on blackfriday...completely your choice.
occupy is soon becoming a farce! with no clear cut goals ,and more so , no idea how to achieve what they want.

HEY TEAPUGS, I CAN'T HEAR YOU! I'M STILL AWAITING YOUR RESPONSE! HOW DO YOU CREATE 14 MILLION AMERICAN JOBS OVERNIGHT? SINCE PRESIDENT OBAMA DOESN'T SEEM TO HAVE A CLUE, HIS STAFF IS EAGERLY AWAITING YOUR RESPONSE. AND AGAIN, NAME CALLING IS NOT A SOLUTION TO JOB GROWTH. SO WHAT'S YOUR REMEDY TO THIS CRISIS? AND PERHAPS YOUR REPUBLICAN LEADERS DON'T HAVE THE ANSWERS BECAUSE THIS CRISIS OCCURED UNDER THEIR LEADERSHIP. NEVERTHELESS, LET'S HEAR YOUR SOLUTION FOR JOB GROWTH!
