Occupy targets retailers on Black Friday

The Occupy movement is taking on the biggest retail day of the season, calling on protesters to occupy major retailers on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.

"OCCUPY BLACK FRIDAY by occupying/boycotting large chain stores and publicly traded retail" is the message posted on the website stopblackfriday.com.

The movement contends that 1% of the country is making money at the expense of the other 99%.

"The credit cards the 99% overcharge will allow the 1% to enrich themselves gluttonously on the backs of hardworking people who simply want to provide a memorable time for their families," the website says.

"So just imagine what would happen to the 1% if the 99% did not spend on Black Friday."

The site asks protesters to target only "publicly traded large businesses" and support small businesses "that serve our local communities."

The site lists Abercrombie & Fitch, Amazon.com, AT&T Wireless, Burlington Coat Factory, Dick's Sporting Goods, Dollar Tree, The Home Depot, Neiman Marcus, Office Max, Toys "R" Us, Verizon Wireless and Wal-Mart as businesses that should be boycotted or occupied.

"We are NOT anti-capitalist, just anti-crapitalist," the site says.

OWS is over. They should of been at the White House, Congress, and the Federal Reserve instead of getting high in New York and Oakland. Dumb bunnies anyway.

To fix most of our problems – don't buy Chinese and then pass a law against lobbying and buying our politicians.

I can see none of these OWS people has ever been to the mobbed stores on Black Friday. They may think they're safe, but don't come between a frazzled woman who has 47 people to buy for and 12 hours to do it. They'll be trampled. Don't mess with the Mommies.

I love it when idiots shout "get a job" at the protesters. 30 million unemployed americans, and only half a million jobs of any kind available. What are the other 29.5 million people supposed to do? If you don't like them protesting, then vote for people who will actually do something to create more jobs, not just the ones that promise to. Those ones lied in 2010, and they're lying now.

No doubt this movement will cause someones death making it a true black Friday. Don't mess with shoppers looking for bargains. They have nothing to do with the people you are against and most of the ones I know would kill you to get 50% off. Your movement is about to lose all of its power and turn the masses against you.

    Greetings Imerican peoples,
As Prime Minister of Russian Federation I completely support the Occupy Movement. Vee stand with the Imerican peoples and their opposition to this corrupt regime. In fact, vee are considering sending over some assistance to help vith the occupation. I think a few airborne divisions para-dropped into your homeland would be a great great assistance to insure the success of your 'occupation' – yes? In fact I think there may be several other countries interested in helping to occupy you country. Dah, vee can make ziss happen – no problem.

As part of the 99%, I can tell you I am getting really tired of these Occupy people including me in thier 99%! Number of people total in Occupy in the US is what, maybe 250,000 at best? With 311 million (311,800,000 in mid-2011) estimated in the US that puts the Occupy at 0.08% of the country! Lets give them a new slogan to use....we are the less than 1%!!!! As for this story, you would think they had an idea what Black Friday actually does for the rest of us, God forbid I might want to get something nice for my family with the little money I have to spend. But sure, lets Occupy the companies that are offering us sales, make us spend more later...great idea Occupy, thanks!!

We must have a political system where politicians can never accept monies in any form forever, other than their salaries. This should be the first demand from Occupy.

Also make it illegal to give a low income person a loan at 200 % interest!!! Same interest for all!

the interest rate is based on your credit score/chance of you paying it back. And lots of states have laws that limit the interest rate already.

I am well aware of the way the credit score is calculated .... loans also depends on how much you make...they always ask anyway!!! Low income people are much more likely to have problems with credit scores than the wealthy. A credit score is proportional to income! Look up the study yourself. It has little to do with personal integrity ... everything to do will class. It is a way to take advantage to the low income who are most vulnerable and unlikely to take legal action. The police also give tickets mostly to low income people because they are less likely to fight it in court because they can not afford too! Furthermore these lists are being used to deny housing and prevent employment in many states. Furthermore low income neighborhoods are targeted by companies to initiate "wrong" billing policies because low income people are more likely to not correct the false information of a credit score and the inflated bill (as much as 1000 % the original bill) can then be sold to a collection agency!!!

how fair is it that the workers who produce the product or service, aren't paid a decent living wage, yet the execs at the top get millions from the profits, for watching the workers produce the product? This is what the ows movement is all about. We have reached a breaking point here.
