Occupy targets retailers on Black Friday

The Occupy movement is taking on the biggest retail day of the season, calling on protesters to occupy major retailers on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.

"OCCUPY BLACK FRIDAY by occupying/boycotting large chain stores and publicly traded retail" is the message posted on the website stopblackfriday.com.

The movement contends that 1% of the country is making money at the expense of the other 99%.

"The credit cards the 99% overcharge will allow the 1% to enrich themselves gluttonously on the backs of hardworking people who simply want to provide a memorable time for their families," the website says.

"So just imagine what would happen to the 1% if the 99% did not spend on Black Friday."

The site asks protesters to target only "publicly traded large businesses" and support small businesses "that serve our local communities."

The site lists Abercrombie & Fitch, Amazon.com, AT&T Wireless, Burlington Coat Factory, Dick's Sporting Goods, Dollar Tree, The Home Depot, Neiman Marcus, Office Max, Toys "R" Us, Verizon Wireless and Wal-Mart as businesses that should be boycotted or occupied.

"We are NOT anti-capitalist, just anti-crapitalist," the site says.

'...protesters to target only "publicly traded large businesses"'. Why would I do that? Those "public-traded large businesses" is where I've invested money for my retirement. I wish them a good season. It doesn't hurt me. It helps me.

Seems like the "Occupiers" have no focus - they're just looking for someone/something to boycott. Not an effective plan and turns more people off than it attracts.

I am well aware of the way the credit score is calculated .... loans also depends on how much you make...they always ask anyway!!! Low income people are much more likely to have problems with credit scores than the wealthy. A credit score is proportional to income! Look up the study yourself. It has little to do with personal integrity ... everything to do with class. It is a way to take advantage to the low income who are most vulnerable and unlikely to take legal action. The police also give tickets mostly to low income people because they are less likely to fight it in court because they can not afford too! Furthermore these lists are being used to deny housing and prevent employment in many states. Furthermore low income neighborhoods are targeted by companies to initiate "wrong" billing policies because low income people are more likely to not correct the false information of a credit score and the inflated bill (as much as 1000 % the original bill) can then be sold to a collection agency!!!

You know, whenever I see footage of "occupiers", I see kids that have not lived long enough to know real hardship. I look forward to hearing about them getting their asses handed to them by Black Friday Shoppers!

I don't know what footage you are watching, but in addition to "kids" there are middle class and middle aged people out there, fighting for all of us. You may be watching only FOX footage, or you only choose to see the people that comport with your picture of the event. OWS is fighting for all of us who are not millionaires. The movement may ebb and flow - and make mistakes - but things have only gotten better for the average person in this country when large numbers of people took to the streets. We are going back to the 30's now and having to fight the same fight against robber barons that workers fought then. We grew complaisant about the things they won for us - 40 hours work weeks, child labor laws, lunch, decent pay - and now we have to do it over again. When people go on about "oh you lefties think you should have a hand out," what do you think you were believing when you fell for "trickle-down" economics. Oh, the rich will take care of us if we just pay them off. How's that working for you? I don't need a hand out. I just want corporate bullies to get their feet off of our necks.

I imagine that if the 99% didn't spend on Black Friday, they would spend it another day, and most likely, they would be paying more as the Black Friday sales would be over. Result: more money for the large companies, and the banks whose credit cards the 99% are using.

It's not as if people are going to open presents on Christmas Day and discover that the boxes are empty except for notes along the lines of, "Sorry, but Santa couldn't get presents without putting money into the pockets of the 1% – Merry Christmas!"

Seriously? The gerneral public is not going to be nearly as nice to you punks as the NYPD was. Some of you are going to end up severely beaten or maybe even shot to death. That will be a good thing. Maybe when you realize that most Americans thoroughly hate you and will not tolerate your stupidity maybe you will find some else to do with your time.

Then those that do it will go to jail. The police can not be sent to jail. You hit a protester ... we will make sure to push the law as far as possible!

Hey I noticed that Bed, Bath and Beyond was not on the OWS black list, nor is Sports Authority. Now I know where those people get their stuff. Also, if the 1% could be made "miserable" like the other 99%, then what? What is the end game with these idiots? Maybe next November we can hope for a change.

You seriously can't understand why? The purpose, rather obviously, is that if the 1% are hurt in their pocketbooks then they will start listening to those under them. They aren't just hurting them for spite. You obviously don't understand the american way of protesting things.
