The Occupy movement is taking on the biggest retail day of the season, calling on protesters to occupy major retailers on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.
"OCCUPY BLACK FRIDAY by occupying/boycotting large chain stores and publicly traded retail" is the message posted on the website stopblackfriday.com.
The movement contends that 1% of the country is making money at the expense of the other 99%.
"The credit cards the 99% overcharge will allow the 1% to enrich themselves gluttonously on the backs of hardworking people who simply want to provide a memorable time for their families," the website says.
"So just imagine what would happen to the 1% if the 99% did not spend on Black Friday."
The site asks protesters to target only "publicly traded large businesses" and support small businesses "that serve our local communities."
The site lists Abercrombie & Fitch, Amazon.com, AT&T Wireless, Burlington Coat Factory, Dick's Sporting Goods, Dollar Tree, The Home Depot, Neiman Marcus, Office Max, Toys "R" Us, Verizon Wireless and Wal-Mart as businesses that should be boycotted or occupied.
"We are NOT anti-capitalist, just anti-crapitalist," the site says.

OWS is just mad beacuse those stores wouldn't just give them stuff for free.
And why is it that if any of the 99% that doesn't believe their ideals and opinions is an idiot, it seems you have to see the world through their eyes or you are wrong. Honestly they had some important things to protest on in the beginning that the 99% of Americans could have got behind but now any one that supports them is just a follower and misguided with low self esteem.
They represent less than 1/1000 of a percent
I started off agreeing with the message of these occupy people but they are starting to get on my nerves now. Blocking entry to Walmart and other chain stores is just going to mess with the middle and lower class people trying to get affordable gifts for their family. I'm not sure what they hope to accomplish but if they don't change their tactics this movement is going to be a small blip in history. If you want to go protest at the corporate headquarters fine by me but stop blocking bridges and subways and keeping hardworking people from living their lives. They even heckled Obama at one of his speeches. what do they hope to accomplish there? Do they WANT a republican for the next president? I think these people have a lot of motivation but very little intelligence.
Well said.
We can't buy anything so you can't either! And don't call it Christmas, it's either X-mas or Festivus!!
YES! Because Festivus is for the Rest of Us!!
You realize that an underperforming store will just let its seasonal and part time employees go right?
Just like in Oakland where they put the dock workers out of work for a week the OWS people strike again with their well-thought out intelligence, further proving they know everything about everyone.
The Occutards think they are all for mom & pop small businesses. I would love to see their faces if everything was still being manufactured here at home: I have a feeling that a $3,000 iPhone and $500 pair of Nikes would give them pause to think.
I just asssumed these weenies would actually think. Sorry about that...
Just wondering: Will the people camping outside stores on public walkways be arrested and pepper sprayed for blocking pedestrian traffic?
The stores they are talking about "blocking" are on private property; if the store management/owners ask them to leave and they don't the police will do what is necessary to remove them from the property. Like the protesters at UC Berkley, they will be given plenty of warning or suffer the consequences. Even if they were on public property there are still certain rules and laws they must obey.
i think that we should flash mob these places and take what we want and leave. they cant catch everybody!
Let's hope when the shooting starts you get hit first.
two words. FLASH MOB.
"We are NOT anti-capitalist, just anti-crapitalist,"
Since when did the media start publishing what four year olds say as news. I took a @#$% last night that was more well put together than that slogan. And by the way, you ARE anti capitalism if you are against filthy rich corporations remaining filthy rich at the expense of idiot consumers. Um yeah...that's how capitalism works, kids. Welcome to junior high social studies.
Hey OWS? Where did you get those iPhones at? How about those laptops? What about those Hollister shirts?
Where did you get those iPhones? NOT where did you get those iPhones AT? What are you, Mexican? Do you drive a Scion? Jesus...
Never have so few been so stupid for so long. OWS slogan
I like that slogan. Someone should make t-shirts with that one it- maybe one of the Occupiers thats looking for a job?
I hope they do try to protest inside these stores.
It will be fun watching them all go to jail when they don't leave after being asked.
Sad to see Home Depot on the list. They treat their employee's well . Tiffany's would be a better choice to get the 1 % attention . OWS is the strike force for economic justice and should be respected.
@vownowtim – yeah, if anyone can find one of the "occupiers" who is looking for a job.... I'm not sure such a thing exists.
Occucrap.... if you don't want to spend your money, fine, and let me do whatever I want with mine, you fascists retards! And by the way, go and get a job instead of making a public temper tantrum just because life is so unfair to you!
Too bad there aren't any jobs available in the first place, because ignorant people like yourself don't understand the bigger picture in terms of individual responsibility for the evolution of our people and instead 'sell-out' to a backwards capitalistic society. By the way, I have a college degree, and there still aren't jobs available. Wake up and read to educate yourself!!
There are TONS of jobs available right now. In fact, there are even MORE than usual due to the seasonal positions open right now. Maybe if the OWS people didn't feel like they were too good to take these jobs they would in fact have a job.
The occupy idiots are a bunch of looser that can't figure out life for themselves. They whine, they complain and they will soon fade into the background and under the rocks for which they came. It is great to watch my kids see the news and they already understand that the supposed 99% are really the 1% loosers in this county.
Honestly, I'm morally obliged to myself to rather be unemployed and educate myself further than be a sickle sell-out to my society by working at McDonalds...
Hopefully you would too.
sickmuse,
What you're saying is, you'd rather be unemployed and live off other people's money than take a job you don't like because you feel you are too good for that kind of work. You are exactly what is wrong with this country.
Actually, as a means to widen your narrow field of vision, I have two BA's and working on my PHD. I have no inclination to join the work force at the moment, because there aren't any jobs in my field available thanks to the rotting economy that you're so gladly selling out to; I'd rather educate myself, instead, than work a meaningless job that will eventually halt and retract my personal intellect and growth as an individual. Hold your own individual intellect above capitalism, please? If there were more people hungry to be educated in this country, we wouldn't have this economic problem of the 1% manipulating and stealing so easily. Let me recapitulate in simpler terms; if there were more intellectual folk in this country, we wouldn't even be in this crisis. But hey, ignorance is bliss, ain't it?! And it's sure a helluva good ol' time when dem big consumer sales hit!! Meanwhile, the big bosses of the 1% are congratulating, and toasting champagne to the idiots like you who have no clue about personal intellect over society...
Actually, I work in higher education so your perception of me selling out to a capitalistic society is in err. I try to sympathize with Occupiers, but they make it rather difficult when they say things like "there are no jobs" when in fact there are. Good for you having two degrees and working on your PhD. More people should value an education as you do. Still, it seems your education has caused you to feel like honest work is something beneath you.
Here's an idea. If you are dead set against getting paid for work you don't like and want to do something good with your life that will help others, join the peace corps. At least you'll be making other people's lives better rather than being a total drain on society.
As far as no jobs in your field go, what is your chosen field?
People with no jobs and money are threatening to boycott. That will shut Bes b-y down. lol. I could empathize with these peole if they were actually looking for jobs.
Haha.
Take stock in Pepper spray it will be a great seller on black Friday
