Occupy targets retailers on Black Friday

The Occupy movement is taking on the biggest retail day of the season, calling on protesters to occupy major retailers on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.

"OCCUPY BLACK FRIDAY by occupying/boycotting large chain stores and publicly traded retail" is the message posted on the website stopblackfriday.com.

The movement contends that 1% of the country is making money at the expense of the other 99%.

"The credit cards the 99% overcharge will allow the 1% to enrich themselves gluttonously on the backs of hardworking people who simply want to provide a memorable time for their families," the website says.

"So just imagine what would happen to the 1% if the 99% did not spend on Black Friday."

The site asks protesters to target only "publicly traded large businesses" and support small businesses "that serve our local communities."

The site lists Abercrombie & Fitch, Amazon.com, AT&T Wireless, Burlington Coat Factory, Dick's Sporting Goods, Dollar Tree, The Home Depot, Neiman Marcus, Office Max, Toys "R" Us, Verizon Wireless and Wal-Mart as businesses that should be boycotted or occupied.

"We are NOT anti-capitalist, just anti-crapitalist," the site says.

Okay. Now I'm against these OWS protests. First they threatened to invade a free meal thanksgiving bash for kids in NY, now they are going to heckle people that have saved up money for God knows how long to buy something cheap? I don;t even care about them anymore. They are now hooligans as far as i'm concerned.

Don't worry I'm sure some will be hypocrites and shop too.

"and Wal-Mart as businesses that should be boycotted or occupied"
So where does OWS shop at??? Don't tell me you drive around and go to many smaller stores because that's just wasting gas which eventually leads to your support of the Big Business Oil Companies.

Occupy idiots should be boycotting movies, music ,and sports. All of those people are in the top 1% and you idiots beg them to take your hard earned money. No one is forcing any of you idiots to max out your credit cards. Grow up, stop sniveling, and tacke responsibility for you own choices. What a disgrace and embarrassment you people are to America.

You must be sick of yourself because the argument you pose is silly. I'm not going to waste my time with your education, but you really shouldn't post unless you grasp the reality of the situation. Or i guess you can stay in the land of foolishness.

Too many people here are barely making living wages and Bad mouthing OWS. They don't even realize that their rears are being creamed by these very corporations. Take a Hard look at America since 1985 and talk to some honest economists they will enlighten you.

Some of us would like to sympathize with the occupiers, but they don't make it easy.

For example, another commentor in this thread says there are no jobs, but there are. Then it turns out they simply refuse to take jobs they don't find fullfilling. That seems to be the case for many of the occupiers. The fact is, when you go around telling everyone that you are simply too good to work some jobs, you don't deserve sympathy. What you need at that point is a hefty dose of reality.

How many people in the world do you think have the LUXURY of a fullfilling job? I'm sure lots do, but in the grand scheme of things it's relatively few. I can not sympathize with those who are in essence spoiled children, regardless of their actual age.

Hey hippie losers, families can have a "memorable time" without spending a dime. Nobody puts a gun to your head and makes you use a credit card. But you losers have no concept of personal responsibility, do you?

Maybe they would get a raise if they earned a raise instead of spending half their work day texting their friends instead of doing their job.

I'm going to go to whichever store has the largest occupy gathering on the news and make sure to stomp, kick and injury and occupiers I can when the rush starts. I won't even buy anything but hopefully I kill an occupier.

The latest report is that they have cost cities over 13 million with their protest. That is money that cannot be used for schools, police protection, firemen and city service. I hope all the union people who back these anarchist are happy with the results.

The protesters can not – no, wait a minute – will not acknowledge how they are hurting the "bottom 99%" who are made up of people working for a living - including many of the retailers they protest.

      Dear Bub and gang

As a former effete intellectual snob, liberal trash, and other popular name calling of the 60s, these are intelligent, mostly educated, some not, some middle class, some poor, some of every race, Americans. Anytime anybody except the Tea Party speaks, name calling begins. Mic Check. Mic Check. GROW UP.

If you, bub or your cohorts are not foreclosed, haven't lost your job, can't feed your family, don't care that banks are giving CEOs millions of dollars in bonuses of your tax money, don't care that banks/corporations are making billions off of your tax money- yet as a "stockholder" are not creating jobs or paying taxes, then I get you don't get why the Occupy movement started and why.

However, that must mean you live under a rock somewhere. So, enjoy your life, leave the kids alone who want to change their country so that all of us can have a say in what is now a corporately led monogamous corrupted government who can't decide their way out of a paper bag, let alone our debt. Go on. Support an organization that named itself as a group of citizens who broke the law, were violent as a matter of fact, and rebelled without success until a war started and many were killed.

Good luck with your life Bub. Tell you what. When the benefits start being handed out to the middle class and the poor adn the rich start paying their fair share, man up and apologize.

Anarchists, thats the word you are looking for, these are the same people that riot whenever economic summits are held in the US and Europe which is why I would think the dems wouldn't want to touch this thing with a 10 foot pole, but the media has crafted it's coverage rather tactfully to try and make people think these are people like you and I (they definitely aren't!).

Anarchist is what some of them are. Anarchy is a joke. The minute we achieve anarchy the people with weapons start fighting to decide who is the next boss. The winners will kill all the anarchist first.

And the hundreds of thousands of those 99% who work at that large chain stores?
I suppose them losing their jobs is ok with you folks?
Stores don't do well in sales, people get cut. In NO WAY is this helping us, the economy, or anything else.
I'm sure the OWS crowd cares less, being all on welfare, unemployment, etc....what a bunch of losers!

Say what you wish about the OWS movement. Agree with it or not, but at least these people are out there standing up for their beliefs, rather than sitting at their computers adding snarky comments to a sea of meaningless remarks that no one important will read, or do anything about.

And while you may point out the irony of my own snarky comment here, I am not part of the 99% (although technically, I don't quite qualify for the 1% either). In spite of my own personal wealth, I actually support this movement. I was once poor, but through a lot of work I became rich. And I will tell all of you posting here who don't have money - the rich have it very, very easy. You really shouldn't be so quick to take their side and do their bidding. They just laugh at you for it.

I'll never be rich, and never famous - but what I DO expect is to be able to pursue my life without strangling in government regulation. Left to my own devices, I'll do just fine. And that is the difference between me and OWS. I'll get there ON MY OWN. Them, they want it for nothing.
