Occupy targets retailers on Black Friday

The Occupy movement is taking on the biggest retail day of the season, calling on protesters to occupy major retailers on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.

"OCCUPY BLACK FRIDAY by occupying/boycotting large chain stores and publicly traded retail" is the message posted on the website stopblackfriday.com.

The movement contends that 1% of the country is making money at the expense of the other 99%.

"The credit cards the 99% overcharge will allow the 1% to enrich themselves gluttonously on the backs of hardworking people who simply want to provide a memorable time for their families," the website says.

"So just imagine what would happen to the 1% if the 99% did not spend on Black Friday."

The site asks protesters to target only "publicly traded large businesses" and support small businesses "that serve our local communities."

The site lists Abercrombie & Fitch, Amazon.com, AT&T Wireless, Burlington Coat Factory, Dick's Sporting Goods, Dollar Tree, The Home Depot, Neiman Marcus, Office Max, Toys "R" Us, Verizon Wireless and Wal-Mart as businesses that should be boycotted or occupied.

"We are NOT anti-capitalist, just anti-crapitalist," the site says.

I wonder if these people realize that Apple 1) is a large, publicly traded business, 2) happens to be the third most profitable company in the world, and 3) is also holding a black Friday sale. Doubt these people are boycotting their iPhones and iPads anytime soon....

What a load of crap. Unless you get into credit card because of necessary, emergency expenses, I really don't have any pity for people who rack up credit card debt. The retailers aren't holding guns to the heads of consumers and forcing them to overcharge their credit cards. People are aware of the interest rate on their credit cards. They make their bed, and when they are forced to lie in it, they scream that the credit card company is exploiting them.

"So just imagine what would happen to the 1% if the 99% did not spend on Black Friday"...they will layoff some percentage of the 99% in order to keep their bottom line for the financial quarter. Think thing through.

Shoot down education's biggest threat: Consumer Capitalism!

if you nimrods can even read and interpret the following:

“Instead of moral and mental differentiation of the individual, you have public welfare and the raising of the living standard. The goal and meaning of individual life (which is the only real life) no longer lie in individual development but in the policy of the State…They do not need to be personalities or capable of judgement, but thorough-going specialists who are unusable outside their line of business.â€

Education biggest threat is the idiots that attend school and believe they are somehow special. Most of the graduates have very little practical knowledge, like how to pour water out of a boot, unless the directions are on the heel. Can tweet, text and talk though.

Dave there are lots of people with low IQs that have college degrees. George W. Bush is one of them. At the end of the day these people are still dumb as a rock. Most of these degrees are meaningless and do nothing to help anybody get a job. Smart people find their way with or without one of those overpriced pieces of paper.

don't these idiots realize that if people boycott these stores, then the workers who produce the goods that they sell will be out of work because there will be no demand for the goods they produce.

Can someone please help these morons connect the dots? If people do not buy, inventory builds, production slows, jobs are lost, unemployment climbs and the economy gets worse. What is it you pathetic lazy 'how can I get it without working for it' idiots don't understand?

Toys R Us is not a publicly traded company, so the people organizing this obviously don't do their research about "large publicly traded companies."

I was not going to go shopping on Black Friday but now I'm thinking about it so I can mosh pit elbow any of these ahats in my way. This is the chance for businesses who provide thousands of jobs to get back into the black. In this economy we need them to be in the black. MAN I CANNOT WAIT TO MAKE SOME NOSES BLEED

Each one of us has the opportunity to become the 1%. That is the fortune of this country. But if you believe taking down the 1% will change things. No matter what form of government there are people at the top. In some countries it is the 1/2% or less. But there will always be someone at top screwing you. Look around the world and where will you find the chance to become the 1%? Protest the leaders and reps in Washington D.C. or your state captial. Like many comments protesting at the stores will not change a thing, only stress out the 99% workers trying to make a living and care for their families. Your protest is worthy, but your not protesting at the right locations!

Crack heads, socialist, anrchist, idiots, and the 1% of the lowest bunch of worthless humans. These morons are simply put...the parasites of America. They feed off the host until it sickens and dies. Maybe a good dose of "Get A Job you lazy piece of doo-doo" will scatter them like roaches in the light. Make them clean up their filth. Freedom of speech comes with responsibility...And their actions have made it clear that there isn't one responsible bug in the lot.

This article wouldn't garner over 2,000 responses if OWS wasn't winning. If they weren't important. If they weren't directing the national conversation. That's what has Republican supporters all worried. There's a question burning in their minds that they dare not speak aloud.. "What if these people go vote with the same passion as they protest?"

Then you're back in minority where the GOP was until 1994. Enjoy.

I think they've got it backward Occupy is the 1% or should we call them the 'less than 1%'. I look in the newspaper every day and I see unfilled jobs. Time to swallow your pride and get to work. You don't start at the top.
