Occupy targets retailers on Black Friday

The Occupy movement is taking on the biggest retail day of the season, calling on protesters to occupy major retailers on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.

"OCCUPY BLACK FRIDAY by occupying/boycotting large chain stores and publicly traded retail" is the message posted on the website stopblackfriday.com.

The movement contends that 1% of the country is making money at the expense of the other 99%.

"The credit cards the 99% overcharge will allow the 1% to enrich themselves gluttonously on the backs of hardworking people who simply want to provide a memorable time for their families," the website says.

"So just imagine what would happen to the 1% if the 99% did not spend on Black Friday."

The site asks protesters to target only "publicly traded large businesses" and support small businesses "that serve our local communities."

The site lists Abercrombie & Fitch, Amazon.com, AT&T Wireless, Burlington Coat Factory, Dick's Sporting Goods, Dollar Tree, The Home Depot, Neiman Marcus, Office Max, Toys "R" Us, Verizon Wireless and Wal-Mart as businesses that should be boycotted or occupied.

"We are NOT anti-capitalist, just anti-crapitalist," the site says.

Also, i know a lady who started her own massage business and just recently was able to find a place to work out of. She was working part time at one job while doing the massage thing full time out of her house and another place that allowed her to do so. Her hard work and dedication paid off. These occupy people need to stop asking for handouts and realize what it's like to work for what you deserve. There are bumps in the road but you got to be tough to get to where you "think" you deserve.

The occupyblackfriday movement is in no way associated with real occupy movement. Please try not to believe everything you hear on the news. Do some research yourself 😉 Happy thanksgiving everyone!

Do you nimrods realize that the people who work in those big box retailers are your neighbors, and mine, and they are trying to put food on the table and pay the bills. To answer your question of what will happen if you boycott them.. Those people will be LAID OFF. Is that your noble goal? You guys need to get a life, go home, and come up with an agenda that makes sense.

Why can't they demand business to reduce sending jobs offshore, not buy the dumped goods from China. We are all culpable in this; If we buy American made goods and if we start a list (like Angie's list) of every job that went offshore, the companies may become more conscious of their actions.

I would love to buy American, but the problem is a lot of things I would like to buy are not made in America any more. Some times, the quality of a few American products are just as bad as the junk from China. So, why would I want to spend more hard-earned money for the same bad quality item?

I'd like to see an OWS fleabagger get between that $20 Blu-Ray player and a herd of middle-aged, shoppers. I can almost hear the "splat" as the two forces collide.

If everyone is so broke from not having jobs, then why would you be out shopping and spending money you don't have?

Credit cards that the 99% overcharge?

Simple solution, don't buy things you can't afford. And if you do buy something on credit, deal with the consequences. (yes I have things on my credit, and I make the payments, I'm not going to fault somebody for making money off of interest, especially since I have a reasonable rate).

Good for you! Most of the employees at credit card companies are 99%ers. Same with most employees at all the stores we shop. Buying things, even on credit that you eventually pay off, keeps them employed. The occupiers don't seem to understand that when many people lose their jobs it sets up an even larger disparity between the rich and poor.

I'm part of the 53% that is sick of these members of the 47%.

(The above percentages reflect the fact that 47% of all Americans paid no income taxes last year.)
