Man charged in Orange County's deadliest mass shooting pleads not guilty

A man who allegedly shot his ex-wife and seven other people to death in the deadliest shooting in Orange County, California, history pleaded not guilty Tuesday, prosecutors said.

An Orange County Superior Court judge scheduled an April 24, 2012, preliminary hearing for Scott Evans Dekraai, 41. Dekraai is charged with eight counts of first-degree murder and a felony count of attempted murder in the October 12 shooting at the Salon Meritage hair salon in the small coastal community of Seal Beach, a district attorney's spokeswoman said.

The first-degree murder charges carry the special circumstance of multiple murder. The attempted murder count is for a ninth victim who was wounded.

Prosecutors said they will seek the death penalty. Dekraai is being held without bond.

Seek the death penalty? It's California. They won't be able to hold Dr. Conrad Murray more than 2 of his 4 year sentence, from overcrowding. This jerk will be sprung Monday morning.

I don't know. Does California still tie down death row inmates in a chair, while they watch a cyanide pellet drop into acid, in a mirror?

Of course this man pled not guilty.
    Of course he did.
Mowing down seven people in addition to his intended victim?
What, does he now have shooter's remorse?
Too bad he didn't show any when he went into that salon and started shooting.

Yeah, Cali has a death penalty, but when was the last time they put anyone to death?
Life in prison WITH NO POSSOBILITY OF PAROLE, EVER!!!=death penalty, anyway.

Give the man some slack guys, he simply murdered 8 innocent people in cold blood.
The guy who slaughtered 77 innocent people in Norway got away with insanity, no jail, no hanging by the neck till dead.
Folks like these deserve our sympathy, don't they?

Cute ruffnutt lol and it really troubles me that these people go for years without anyone noticing they were mentally deranged, then they go off and after 36 hours they are pronounced insane? How can that happen in todays society?

Oh, I remember Karla Faye Tucker.
Along with am accomplice, killed a couple of people with an ax, claiming that she popped the O while she was doing it.
Sentenced to death, found Jesus while in prison, became a decent person...
And was put to death because she killed some people with an ax, claiming to have popped the big O while she was doing it.
Yep, I remember Karla Faye Tucker.

In Texas, though, where they actually have "truth in sentencing".
