Gotta Watch: News making news

As a journalist, the goal is to never become part of the story. The same goes for reporters and anchors.. deliver the news, but do not become the news. This becomes impossible when the studio you’re working at has other plans in store. From overhead fires to false alarms, you Gotta Watch these studio slip-ups.

False fire alarm- A journalist who's taken on world leaders and reported from battlefields may have had his toughest assignment yet. During last night's "NBC Nightly News" broadcast, anchor Brian Williams was live in the studio when the fire alarm kept going off.  What's most impressive, the veteran anchorman wasn't even fazed.

Lights, camera, evacuation? – During a live newscast out of the Headline News studios, two anchors decided to evacuate their seats due to a fire. A light bulb exploded above their heads and caught fire as they were doing a live show. Check out these anchors doing their best to stay safe as they experienced technical difficulties.

Video Vault: Bad week bloopers-A classic piece from CNN’s Jeanne Moos fits perfectly with today’s Gotta Watch. See news anchors blaming teleprompters for their oops and others thinking they weren’t on camera.

i saw the newscast. I thought everyone soldiered on quite well. All pros. They've reported from war zones so what's a little fire alarm. I'll bet someone got in trouble, though.

Probably not wise to sit there like an idiot when the fire alarms are going off – even if the crew tells you its ok. You look pretty damned stupid, Mr. Williams and it teaches our kids to not react properly to valid alarms.

"As journalists the goal is to deliver the news but never become the news." Is that so? For three straight years the mainstream media, particularly Republican owned and operated CNN, MSNBC, FOX and the likes of the Wall Street Journal have all done every thing but deliver the new in a fair, objective and ethical manner, often manipulating, exploiting and misleading the American people with bogus and outrageous lies to defend the rightwing extremests in congress. No, the mainstream media has been the news! Please, next story!

Ethiopian man burns himself to death in protest
    By Angus Stickler | November 16, 2011

    --------------------------–

    --------------------------–

    Activist Yenesaw Gebre
Events in Ethiopia have taken a disturbing turn following reports that a teacher in his late 20s burnt himself alive last week in protest against the ongoing brutal clampdown on dissent in the country. According to reports Yenesew Gebre made an impassioned plea at a protest gathering before dowsing himself in petrol and setting himself on fire.
Addressing fellow protestors he is reported to have said: ’I want to show to all that death is preferable than a life without justice and liberty and I call upon my fellow compatriots to fear nothing and rise up to wrench their freedom and rights from the hands of the local and national tyrants.’

It is understood that Gebre died from his injuries three days later at the Tercha city local hospital.

    Renewed crackdown

According to sources who spoke to the satellite TV station, ESAT, Yenesew had been campaigning against injustice at the hands of ruling party officials. It also appears that he had been fired from his teaching position because of his political views.

The event happened at a public meetng on November 11, aimed at resolving a series of local protests.

It was during the meeting that Yenesew Gebre reportedly spoke out against President Meles Zenawi’s regime. When security agents tried to stop him, Yeneneh walked out of the meeting hall and set himself alight infront of the other protesters gathered in the compound.

‘While fire was engulfing his whole body, he was calling for justice, freedom and democracy and urged people to rise up against the oppressors. He wanted martyrdom … he chose to sacrifice his life for the sake of liberty and justice,’ a local source who witnessed the shocking incident told ESAT.

According to close friends, Yenesew Gebre was widely respected and well known for raising serious issues and challenging authorities. For more information, please see the ETHIOMEDIA.COM. ThankYou!
