Amanda Knox, Raffaele Sollecito working on book deals

Amanda Knox may be one step closer to telling the world her side of the story about her saga of being wrapped up in an Italian murder trial that caught the world's eye.

Knox, who recently returned home to the United States after winning an appeal of her conviction, has officially inked a deal with attorney Robert Barnett to represent her when it comes to book deals.

Knox was convicted in 2009 of murder, sexual assault, possession of a weapon, interfering with a crime and theft in relation to the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher. But during an appeal this year, a jury cleared Knox of those charges, freeing her. The court also cleared her Italian ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito.

"[Barnett will] represent her in discussions with various book publishers who have expressed an interest in Amanda writing a book," David Marriott, the Seattle public relations specialist hired by the Knox family during her trial told CNN by e-mail. "Mr. Barnett will also assist Amanda and her family in evaluating other opportunities as well."

Barnett is well-known for brokering major book deals with several high-profile figures including: President Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Laura Bush, Bob Woodward and Sarah Palin among several other notables.

Marriott told CNN they had no further details to share about where they were in the process or whether Knox already had anything written. Knox's family has said she enjoys writing and thought she would be interested in sharing her ordeal with others either through writing a book or becoming an advocate.

Knox makes emotional return to Seattle

Knox's announcement came about a week after her former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito inked a deal of his own. Sollecito signed with Seattle-based Martin Literary Management.

“This is a case I have followed from day one and never, not even for a moment, have I doubted the innocence of Raffaele Sollecito and Amanda Knox,” Sharlene Martin said in a news release. “I’m honored to work with this fine young man and let the world know the real Raffaele — a sensitive, compassionate and heartfelt person."

"He's never really spoken about that night and this is his opportunity to do so," Martin told CNN. "There's much more to Raffaele than what the world has seen. He is an amazing young man. He is brave, he is heartfelt, he is compassionate. I think he is an incredible young man with a story to tell."

Martin said that both her client and Knox have been in the spotlight for so long and while she just learned about Knox's deal, she is excited for them both to share their stories. She also said the caliber of Knox's agent speaks to how important it is for her story to be told.

"I think Amanda is very fortunate to have him," Martin said. "It speaks volumes for a man of his integrity to want to represent her story and I think it will distinguish her from other crime stories and I think it will help Raffaele."

Martin said that Sollecito's book will be a memoir and will cover several aspects of his life, not just the four-year saga in Perugia, Italy. Martin said they're currently looking for American writers who can also speak with Sollecito in Italian to work on the book.

She said while Knox's story may have been more heavily covered in the media, because she's American, she believes both of the former co-defendants have a lot to share with those who only saw them through the court proceedings.

"They both have equally important stories to tell," Martin said. "They have both been incredibly affected by the death of Meredith Kercher and will always be."

Unreal she is getting a book deal. Who will buy that book ? Not me. It will be blood money.

Blood money? How ignorant are you?!! Rudy Guede is the ONE & ONLY rapist/killer of Meredith Kercher. Amanda & Raffaele have every right to tell their stories & be compensated. They will never get back the 4 years they lost. Both are 100 percent innocent & anyone who thinks otherwise needs to get a clue or shut their wordholes. Your opinion means nothing.

No she is not nuts. I hate to say this but all you people who think she is innocent have been duped by the PR machine her parents set in place. She is definitely far more involved than she ever let on. It is commendable to support someone but sadly Amanda is not the right one. I am an American and I can see how some people would think she got a raw deal but she didn't. The Italians messed up but there are just way too many unanswered questions from her. She is NOT the pure sweet girl she has been painted. I think the book deal shows some of that.

I completely agree with you. How said is it that this day in age one can committ, even if aquitted, an agregace crime and still be rewarded for it. God help her the day her children come to her one day ask her what is the difference between right and wrong. Im pretty sure her answer will be, "getting caught".

I completely agree with you. How sad is it that this day in age one can committ, even if aquitted or set free by idiot police that cant handle an invetigation, an agregace crime and still be rewarded for it. God help her the day her children come to her one day ask her mommy what is the difference between right and wrong? Im pretty sure her answer will be, "getting caught".

Whilst I would not go as far as to call the proceeds of any media deal blood money they could certainly be designated as proceeds of crime and as such in many countries such deals could be considered to be illegal and any money made forfeit. Besides the now deceased victim it should not be forgotten that the girl did have a conviction against her upheld, that being for lying to the police. This conviction as far as I am aware has not been overturned, in my own country at least (Australia) the proceeds of crime can be forfeit to the government, this includes media deals.

You need to just keep your clueless opinion to yourself. Obviously you know NOTHING about this case except tabloid lies. The ONE & ONLY rapist/killer of Meredith Kercher is Rudy Guede. Amanda & Raffaele were not there & had zero involvement. They deserve to tell their stories & be compensated. Neither will ever get back the 4 yrs. lost of their young lives.

I hope Amanda and Raffaele are able to get their lives back on track now that they have got their freedom. I have never doubted their innocence. The book deal is a great start!
Let's hope the real murderer of Meredith Kurscher is brought to justice and incarcerated for life

Knox and Sollecito, good to know your innocence and enjoy your freedom... But making a profit off an innocent girl who was murdered is freaking bull***t, I know this must have cost alot of money but again not nice to make a profit off this, I think that sucks and not fair to the victim or her family

Excuse me?? Amanda & Raffaele have every right to tell their stories AND be compensated. They are two INNOCENT people who will never get back the 4 years lost of their young lives. They are NOT profitting off the death of Meredith. Their stories need to be heard.

Amanda & Raffaele will NEVER forget "someone died" & certainly don't need a lecture. They are victims too although they managed to regain their lives whereas Meredith Kercher never will. But Rudy Guede is the ONE & ONLY rapist/killer of Meredith & you need to worry about him getting out of prison in possibly as soon as 8 yrs., free to kill another iinnocent young woman. Amanda & Raffaele deserve to be heard & they deserve to be compensated–preferably by the Italian government but that's never gonna happen.

How do you feel about the victim's family making money off of it? There is nothing wrong with either of them writing a book. The victims father will write about his memories and his pain and Amanda will write about her innocence and what she felt when she was wrongfully convicted.

Good for them. Both Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito are INNOCENT. "Blood money" and "dirty cops" have nothing to do with them. Why are so many people acting like they are the Italian equivalent of Casey Anthony? The Italian police and the Italian media LIED in order to keep the kids in prison. Those poor kids should get something positive out of the miserable ordeal they were forced to go through. Amanda Knox's family needs the money badly, as they were not wealthy to begin with and mortgaged everything they owned in order to pay for Amanda's defense and to be able to stay in Italy while she was in prison.

How many families could mortgage everything they own and come up with $2 million. I'll tell you: the top 5% of families in the US. A lot of that money was has already been recouped by selling pictures, etc. This is just a killer profiting from the death of a young woman she murdered. Disgusting.

P.S. You do know that "kids" 20-24 years old get sentenced to death in this country all the time, for this exact same crime?

to the person below (bull whatever) Amanda & Raffaele are 100 percent innocent ! Rudy Guede is the one & only rapist/killer of Meredith Kercher. I am sick of people opining about this case when they know NOTHING of the facts! Amanda & Raffaele lost 4 yrs. of their young lives & their stories deserve to be told. THey deserve all the HAPPILY EVER AFTER they so richly deserve. Ignorant haters can't touch them now!!

And where the hell did you get that info? These "poor kids" were the ones who lied and changed their stories. They should be happy that they out of jail. But no, they want more.

CHA-CHING! I hear the money coming in right now. I don't blame them, the family took a significant financial hit. I just hope they don't turn the whole crime into a money making deal. They need to remember that someone died here. Even if Knox had nothing to do with it, someone died. I would also use some of the proceeds to build a fund in the name of the victim. Her family has much more healing to do and this might help them with some closure.

Maybe Amanda Knox should hire Joe McGinniss to help her write the book. He was the person hired by Dr. Jeffrey MacDonald to write his story, Fatal Vision.
