Sandusky arrested on new child rape charges

[Updated at 2:34 p.m. ET] Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky was arrested Wednesday on additional child rape charges, which raise the number of alleged victims from eight to 10 people, the Pennsylvania attorney general's office said.

The new charges include four counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and two counts of unlawful contact with a minor, involving two new alleged victims who were boys at the time of the alleged encounters.

Sandusky, who maintains his innocence, faces a preliminary hearing on December 13 at 8:30 a.m.

"Today's criminal charges were recommended by a statewide investigating grand jury, based on evidence and testimony that was received following the initial arrest of Sandusky on November 5," Pennsylvania Attorney General Linda Kelly said.

The new alleged victims - identified as Victim 9 and Victim 10 - encountered Sandusky at The Second Mile charity, a nonprofit organization he founded for underprivileged children.

Victim 9 was between 11 and 12 years old when he met the former coach around 2004, who allegedly gave him gifts and money and took the boy to university football games, according to the statement.

Sandusky allegedly met Victim 10 in 1997 after a counselor recommended the boy attend the charity "because of difficulties in his home life."

A grand jury report made public last month detailed 40 charges against the former coach in a child sex abuse scandal that, at the time, involved eight alleged victims, spanning 15 years.

A look at the grand jury report

The eight alleged victims identified in that report, like the two new accusers, first encountered Sandusky through the Second Mile, the attorney general's office said.

"As in many of the other cases identified to date, the contact with Sandusky allegedly fit a pattern of 'grooming' victims," Kelly said. "Beginning with outings to football games and gifts, they later included physical contact that escalated to sexual assaults."

My comment was VERY misunderstood. It is NOT the kids fault. They were not given a choice. AS ADULTS WE NEED TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN (all, not just the ones we give birth to). we need to stand up for our kids by 1) stopping anyone we wittness hurting a child and 2) DEFENDING THE KID RATHER THAN THE MONSTER ONCE WE FIND OUT. The law wont do any th ing until we demand it. We have to stand up for kids ourselves before we can ever expect anyone else to do it. And btw, the wife of the man raping me wasnt blind– she was also enjoying it. Just a thought. Every single adult who knew and let it continue IS GUILTY

It's about dang time they charge this gay old man with statutory raype. Bi is still gay. Now, let's bring statutory raype charges against all of the religious leaders/members whom we've busted with our boys. They think that these problems can be handled internally. Let's show them that this is simply not true, and by chargeing those who knew but failed to speak-out with aiding a felon. Those old church ladies gossip about everything else, let's open their mouths on the witness stand, starting with Sandusky and Paterno's wives.

I wish that a law would be passed to do criminal background checks & full psych eval on ALL professionals / and those that make a living dealing with children-TO WEED OUT THE PERVERTS WHO ABUSE CHILDREN AND PATIENTS!! I'm a RN,and to GET INTO NURSING SCHOOL -I had to pass a psych eval(written)-you DON'T WANT A SADIST to be taking care of you!!! There were people that got kicked out of school when the formal psych report came out.THERE SHOULD ALSO BE A NATIONAL REGISTRATION FOR TEACHERS,MD,NURSES,DAYCARE WORKERS!!!!

Requiring a background check is a good idea, but remember, Sandusky did not have a criminal record until a few weeks ago, so a criminal background check would have come back clean for him. You also need to have a strict policy of never allowing people who work with children to be alone with them. Pedophiles like Sandusky know how to create opportunities for themselves to be near their victems without drawing attention to themselves. The Boy Scouts have had their problems with pedophiles in the past (as have many other organizations that work with kids) , but at least now they have a pretty good program in place to educate scouts about how to avoid being a victem of abuse and there is a strict policy of requiring the presence of at least 2 adults at all times. Any meeting between a scout leader and a scout must take place in full view of at least one another adult. This won't solve every problem, and a sick pervert like Sandusky will try to work around any policy like this, but it is a start.

When (if) he goes to prison, he will likely go straight to 'protective custody' and stay there. Oh, he may get a cup of p I s s or s h ! t thrown in his face on his way to the visiting room, but the other cons won't get anywhere near him.

Can the world understand that pedofiles were never be cure. They are already damage and our children are always vulnerable to this monsters, they are like hunters and the victims are our kids, any kids, yours or mine. Pedofiles should receive death penalty or been jailed for the rest of their lives. Innocent children lives have been destroyed, because of this.
Clean the earth for pedofiles in the name of God!!!

Sorry for my bad English!!! Some of them have traumas, have been abuse as a kid but the chain of pain continues because they do it to innocent children, but I truly believe can be also genetic, is a mental illness that have no cure, there is no medication for that just dead penalty or jailed them for life.

@hamsta...You are an idiot. I know quite a few 'sodomites' that I feel perfectly safe leaving my children with. Jerry on the other hand, appeared straight for all intents and purposes. I mean the guy was married. This has nothing to do with being gay or straight. Many gay men are very vocally against this sort of child abuse. Trust me Jerry wasn't interested in men, only boys. So by your definition he wasn't really a 'sodomite'. Gay people can and do raise perfectly healthy, normal children and they are not necessarily child molesters. Grow up.
