Sandusky arrested on new child rape charges

[Updated at 2:34 p.m. ET] Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky was arrested Wednesday on additional child rape charges, which raise the number of alleged victims from eight to 10 people, the Pennsylvania attorney general's office said.

The new charges include four counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and two counts of unlawful contact with a minor, involving two new alleged victims who were boys at the time of the alleged encounters.

Sandusky, who maintains his innocence, faces a preliminary hearing on December 13 at 8:30 a.m.

"Today's criminal charges were recommended by a statewide investigating grand jury, based on evidence and testimony that was received following the initial arrest of Sandusky on November 5," Pennsylvania Attorney General Linda Kelly said.

The new alleged victims - identified as Victim 9 and Victim 10 - encountered Sandusky at The Second Mile charity, a nonprofit organization he founded for underprivileged children.

Victim 9 was between 11 and 12 years old when he met the former coach around 2004, who allegedly gave him gifts and money and took the boy to university football games, according to the statement.

Sandusky allegedly met Victim 10 in 1997 after a counselor recommended the boy attend the charity "because of difficulties in his home life."

A grand jury report made public last month detailed 40 charges against the former coach in a child sex abuse scandal that, at the time, involved eight alleged victims, spanning 15 years.

A look at the grand jury report

The eight alleged victims identified in that report, like the two new accusers, first encountered Sandusky through the Second Mile, the attorney general's office said.

"As in many of the other cases identified to date, the contact with Sandusky allegedly fit a pattern of 'grooming' victims," Kelly said. "Beginning with outings to football games and gifts, they later included physical contact that escalated to sexual assaults."

Let me guess, even after these new charges, he is still out walking around, going shopping like nothing happened. I think something is amiss up in Penn. Maybe the higher ups in state government have too much invested in this guy and are treating him with kid gloves.

Why kill him? I'd prefer him to sit in prison for the rest of his life and think about what he did. What would killing him do? If it were me, I wouldn't feel like I got any closure. What I would most want is for him to look me in the eyes and tell me he was sorry. If I couldn't get that, at least I could know he's got to think about what he did.

..What if this is all a load of garbage? I definitely feel for any child that has had to go through such a horrible thing... but that said, its all been so ambiguous... And as people "come forward" it stinks of opportunism...
There is no denying that Jerry Sandusky is a weird, creepy individual, but, he's kind of like michael jackson... who was also weird, not patently a molester perse, but definitely a freak... Being a creepy weirdo is not illegal.. and if it comes out that this was just a a case of him being an inappropriate creep... a lot of people are going to have mud on their face.

Are you serious!?! Another adult walked in on him while in mid-act of raping a 10year old boy! I could careless if there might be an opportunistic ramora trying to feed off this situation in order to get a pay out; the fact another person witnessed this crime/unthinkable act puts Sandusky right where he needs to be... the hot seat, and now he must answer for his actions.

Anything is possible, of course, but I rather doubt it in this case. It seems to me the authorities would have vetted and investigated these allegations pretty thoroughly before bringing charges, mostly because Sandusky is so high-profile.

This 'innocent' creep destroyed the life of these kids. They will bear the scars forever. Who gives a rats a//ss what Sandusky "thought" he was doing. He committed crimes and he shall be held accountable for them. And frankly, I think it's a little creepy that you think it's okay what this guy did.

No he's not "kinda like Michael Jackson". If these boys were opportunist they would accuse someone with MJ's money, fame, notoriety. Why randomly pull Jerry Sandusky out of the hat out of any one on Earth they could conglomerate with to accuse???? "Hey guys, let's accuse Jerry of all this to become famous!" Seriously – NOT!

The unfortunate thing about this whole situation is that if he'd been raping dogs over all these years, he'd already have a bullet hole between his eyes. Children? He's riding it out.

Where was Sandusky's wife when he was having "slumber parties" in his basement? If my husband preferred the company of young boys and wanted them to sleep over it would raise huge red flags!!

SHE DESERVES to be in JAIL! I am only wondering if they need to convict him of his crimes before they can charge her with something. He took boy ater boy down to his basement for decades. SHE DANG WELL KNEW

    • Well, well..

Well said. How could someone overlook this mans sick ways? The mere fact that her husband had young boys sleep over on a constant basis is an issue in itself. These idiots turned a blind eye to this deviant behavior, and in essence, prolonged it. Shameful.

Except you all don't know how well he hid what he was doing. Everything you're saying about his wife is an assumption. If it comes out that she most definitely knew and did nothing, sure she deserves some form of punishment as well. Until then, you don't know... she could be just as shocked as the rest of us are.
