Egypt's Islamists claimed victory in the first round of parliamentary elections since President Hosni Mubarak was forced out of office in February.
The relatively moderate Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party on Wednesday said on its website that it had won 34 seats in the runoff election.
Hardline Al Nour Salafi Party won five seats, according to its website.
Voters went to the polls in the first round of elections on November 28 and 29, and the runoff Monday and Tuesday.
The strong performance of Islamist parties raised eyebrows in some Western capitals.
oh-ho.. no more tips for egyption pizza delivery men...
Uh oh...Islamists in power.I don't think this will bode well for non-Islamist groups in Egypt;observe the ongoing tensions with the Copts alone.I for one have little confidence that any department of the Egyptian government will deal justly or fairly with groups like the Copts;I simply don't trust them.I think its been amply demonstrated throughout history that when parties dominated by those espousing Islamic"ideals"establish rule over minority groups, those groups rarely fare under these governments and that's simply a fact.So...beware claims of"moderate-sounding"Islamists,an oxymoron if I've ever heard one.

"This raised eyebrows in Western capitals". Why?
Its their country, elections were held & people voted them in. Isn't that what we are always espousing. Democratic process & all ?
The West would have to live with the shift in winds in Arab lands. Copts & Islamists stood together in the popular uprising and its upto them to resolve thier differences. Both groups are not new to each other.
