U.S. wants drone back from Iran, Obama says

President Barack Obama said Monday that the United States has asked Iran to return a U.S. drone aircraft that Iran claims it recently brought down in Iranian territory.

"We've asked for it back. We'll see how the Iranians respond," Obama said in a news conference.

The president's comments come one day after it was reported that an Iranian official said the country would not return the drone.

"No nation welcomes other countries' spy drones in its territory, and no one sends back the spying equipment and its information back to the country of origin," said Gen. Hossein Salami, deputy commander of the Armed Forces, according to the semi-official Fars news agency.

"It makes no difference where this drone originated and which group or country sent it to invade our air space," Salami said. "This was an act of invasion and belligerence."

First you send the drone. Secondly, the capture it. Finally, you want it back. ROFL. Kids fighting over a toy? Move on Mr.president.

Oh, i cant wait to see the excuse US will give to explain how the drone happened to be over iranian airspace. Lost its way maybe? GPS malfunctioned...turned right when it should have taken a U turn? 🙂

How can a leader be so nive?
Every other day we, Israel or UK announce preparations & options of attacking Iran. We keep supplying Israel with hardwarespecifically for this objective, station our war ships around that country, continue strangling their people with crippling sanctions. And when they down a drone over their skies which was not obviously sent to display a banner reading " Greetings & salutations to people of Iran" we want it back & pronto.
And oh I have yet to see Iran stationing their war ships somewhere off our shores or priming their 'Intercontinental ballistic missiles' aiming at our cities & such in preparation for attacking US.

What a joke. They said they lost communication with the drone in Afghanistan. And so apparently it traveled to Iran from Afghanistan without any communication. What a lame excuse given by US army.

?? Do you think they just hang in one spot when you lose communication? There is a thing called "momentum". Rather integral to the whole field of Newtonian physics.

Why are drones flying in Iran? Because Iran is dangerous. How Iran treats their own native Iranians of the Zoroastrian faith is how they want to treat the rest of the world. Iran has been at war against its own Zoroastrians causing huge outflow of refugees. Per
......'The 1979 Islamic Revolution was equally traumatic for the remaining Zoroastrians, and their numbers reduced drastically. Immediately after the revolution, during Bazargan's premiership, Muslim revolutionaries "walked into the main Zoroastrian fire temple in Tehran and removed the portrait of the Prophet Zoroaster and replaced it with one of Khomeini."....... etc...

Doesn't that sound similar to what they did to US Embassy and last week to the British Embassy? It would be interesting to see if they similarly put their flags and portraits of Khomeini and their other leaders inside the British embassy compound.--
Iran did attack and ransack US Embassy in Tehran at the end of Shah of Iran's rule. That was US govt property, hence an attack on USA. They held diplomatic employees of US embassy captive for over 1 year. Recently, they captured 3 unarmed US hikers (2 men, 1 woman) and held the men captive for over 2 years on false charges. US has no diplomatic relations with Iran, and Iran govt will attack any US individuals and property. They have extended attacks to the British and recently stormed British Embassy in Teheran – forcing the Brits to leave and terminate diplomatic relations.

The Ba'hai would agree with you as well. Also, it is interesting to see how few people realize that the invasion of an embassy is an act of war. The US can consider itself to be in a state of war with Iran.

Bringing down civilian planes is also an act of war. And so is toppling democratic governments. Quit being such hypocrites and grow up.

WHO brought down a civilian plane? North Korea is the only country I am aware of that did this INTENTIONALLY. If you are referring to the Vincennes incident, that was ACCIDENTAL. And, if you have a problem with toppling democratically elected governments, maybe you would still prefer the Nazis to be in power in Germany and the Fascists to still be in power in Italy.

I still say that if it is a drone it is badly damaged because of the weld on the wings and no image of the under carriage. You should read these articles before you get in a huff. Likely not even and RQ-170 or current technology. Maybe letting them have it isntead of committing another act of war was not such a bad decision. The Iranian images do not look like an intact drone. Look at the wing welds. Then look at welds on U.S. radar evading drones.

It's obvious that we were concentrating our surveillance in one area either for visual or SIGINT purposes and we lost communications with the Lil devil.. We probably have so much SAT imagery, that we have the license plate numbers of every car in Iran so we knew something bad had happened to the drone. Our lil Toy may have just run out of gas. For enough money, we can find out what really happened to it. It'll take awhile.

Well, considering that CNN has reported that Iran merely "claims to have" this drone, then obviously Obama is merely "claiming" to want it back...
