A New York medical examiner's office said Saturday that a body discovered this week along a remote stretch of Long Island beach was that of Shannan Gilbert, the missing New Jersey woman whose disappearance led investigators to 10 sets of human remains and the hunt for a possible serial killer.
Gilbert, 24, vanished in May 2010 after visiting a client. Police say the Jersey City resident advertised for prostitution services on websites, such as Craigslist.
Her body was uncovered Tuesday in the wooded marshes of Suffolk County's Oak Beach. The cause of her death has not yet been determined, Suffolk County police said in a statement Saturday.

Wow thats a long time
Wow thats a long time.Dont seem like there couldve been much more than bones
Probably why the cause of death is undetermined.
Damn. I was hoping she'd never be found.
Condolences to Shannons family.
I thought this serial killer had called from one of the girls phones to her sister, I wonder if they could locate where the serial killer called from.
They tried but unfortunately the individual knew what he was doing because he called in very public locations where it was hard to track him. Scary. I hope they catch this guy soon.
I hope Shannan's family and friends can find some closure now that they have her remains. It's a shame it doesn't seem like they are any closer to finding who's responsible for the crimes. They can't even agree on whether it was one murderer or unrelated incidents.
My heart goes out to Shannan's family and friends as well as to the multiple families that are coping with the loss of their loved ones by this individual.
That's terrible news. My condolences to all the families of those murdered women. At least they can now lay her to rest.
