Man found guilty in murder of UNC student body president
A jury has found a man guilty in the 2008 murder of  University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill student body president Eve Carson.
Laurence Alvin Lovette Jr. was found guilty of first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, first-degree armed robbery, felonious larceny, and felonious possession of stolen goods.
An autopsy report showed that Carson, an honors student, had multiple gunshot wounds when she was found lying on a Chapel Hill street. The autopsy report listed six gunshot wounds but said two of the wounds were probably from the same bullet.
Court documents released in the North Carolina case said Carson was taken from her apartment and forced to provide her abductors with ATM access to her bank account before she was shot to death in the early hours of March 5.
A grand jury indicted Demario James Atwater on October 27, 2009 on federal charges of carjacking resulting in death, carrying and using firearms in relation to carjacking, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possessing a short-barreled shotgun not properly registered to him. He also faces state first-degree murder charges in Orange County, North Carolina, along with Lovette.
The informant said the two men drove Carson to an ATM, obtained her PIN from her and then shot her. The witness told police that Atwater said the two got about $1,400 from Carson's account. Bank records show that was approximately the amount taken from the account over a two-day period, the documents said.
Orange County District Attorney Jim Woodall has said he also will seek the death penalty against Atwater. Authorities cannot seek the death penalty against Lovette because he was 17 at the time of the slaying.
The Athens, Georgia, native was a pre-medicine student double-majoring in political science and biology. She was a recipient of the university's prestigious Morehead Scholarship and a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society, according to UNC.

I can't even imagine what Eve Carson's parents have gone through. Can you imagine knowing your child was killed for $1,400?!? That's all her life meant to the monsters who got a hold of her. People, if you're even in a situation where someone has you, FIGHT BACK. Scream, yell, run, do whatever you have to. If nothing else, go down swinging. I had a friend who was grabbed from behind getting into her car after work, alone on a dark street, and she started yelling "Robert" over and over again. There was no Robert and she didn't know why she even chose that name, but the creep let her go and ran. Don't be a passive victim.

If these racist, ignorant, illiterate responders such as Sambo, Latrina, True and the murderer had gone to college, or at least made it past 5th grade, we may have less of these wastes to society around. They are complete wastes, jealous and angry at the people that actually get off the couch and do something with their life. We do know this ignorance is being passed down though. I mean, getting knocked up at 9 years old really wasnt the smartest thing your mother did. It is people like this that keep the cycle of stupidity going round and round!!

I think that ATM machines should have two PINS. The #1 PIN means "all is good, give me the money." The #2 PIN means, "all is bad, but give me the money anyway."
I realize this solution doesn't work for everyone but if criminals start to realize that victims have a silent way of alerting police, they may think twice about this sort of crime.
This should be an optional feature (but I'd use it) and using the panic PIN when there's no crime, should be itself be a crime (misdemeanor) that includes suspension of ATM privileges at any ATM all 50 states for at least a year (for the first offense) and permanent loss of the panic PIN feature.
Interesting idea, Hugo. There would be a massive number of false alarms, however, just from people mixing up their PINs. After a while, I doubt most police departments would make such an alarm a priority, in the same way that in some cities police no longer respond to home alarms.

Only good news: 17 POS will get LIFE WITHOUT PAROLE (and it will mean just that) , older POS will get DEATH PENALTY. Will take 10-20 years of living in a 6×9 cell but he will be executed.

Sounds good. When rampant black-on-white violent crime subsides, we can all live happily ever after. In the meantime, if anyone of any color physically threatens me or my family, they will wish they hadn't (if they're still able to wish anything).
There is no need in preaching racism and bigotry, agreed... But when crime statistics show cold hard facts, it does not take a demented and sick mentor to sway people (young and old) to formulate their opinions and thoughts of groups of people, whether they be black, white, christian or muslim, etc, etc, etc.

Those of you who never imagined owning a firearm may want to reconsider. When I was a child, I never thought much about owning a gun, but the older I got the better is sounded. I started with a .22 rifle, and soon discovered the joy of target shooting. I recently purchased a nice bolt action .223 (cz 527 M1 American). I'm very pleased with it. At first, just holding a gun made me nervous, but now, as a responsible gun owner, I treat them with the respect they deserve and they seem more like well-crafted tools, which is what they are. You have a set of steak knives in the house, don't you? Goodness, they're designed to cut flesh! Can you imagine how they could be misused? Firearms are no different.

Tiffany I think sites like this expect people to post dumb comments because they think many people are stupid. Just reading the comments of others shows how insensitive people can be. You would think the comments made would be about sentencing, well wishes to the family, stop crime, etc., but that would be too good to be true and people wouldn't get to laugh at the ignorance of others. It is very sad.
