Man found guilty in murder of UNC student body president
A jury has found a man guilty in the 2008 murder of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill student body president Eve Carson.
Laurence Alvin Lovette Jr. was found guilty of first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, first-degree armed robbery, felonious larceny, and felonious possession of stolen goods.
An autopsy report showed that Carson, an honors student, had multiple gunshot wounds when she was found lying on a Chapel Hill street. The autopsy report listed six gunshot wounds but said two of the wounds were probably from the same bullet.
Court documents released in the North Carolina case said Carson was taken from her apartment and forced to provide her abductors with ATM access to her bank account before she was shot to death in the early hours of March 5.
A grand jury indicted Demario James Atwater on October 27, 2009 on federal charges of carjacking resulting in death, carrying and using firearms in relation to carjacking, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possessing a short-barreled shotgun not properly registered to him. He also faces state first-degree murder charges in Orange County, North Carolina, along with Lovette.
The informant said the two men drove Carson to an ATM, obtained her PIN from her and then shot her. The witness told police that Atwater said the two got about $1,400 from Carson's account. Bank records show that was approximately the amount taken from the account over a two-day period, the documents said.
Orange County District Attorney Jim Woodall has said he also will seek the death penalty against Atwater. Authorities cannot seek the death penalty against Lovette because he was 17 at the time of the slaying.
The Athens, Georgia, native was a pre-medicine student double-majoring in political science and biology. She was a recipient of the university's prestigious Morehead Scholarship and a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society, according to UNC.
Terrible. A productive and worthwhile citizen's life gets cut short by two dead-enders with no past, no future, and no purpose except to ruin what isn't theirs. They did this awful deed over $1400– that is the value of human life to losers like the two in this story.
The state should take away from them what they took away from this medical student– their lives.
The bad part? Even if you take both of their lives, they still don't amount to a bucket of p1ss compared to the life they took wrongfully. Society loses....

Would it be stereotyping if I assume that both of these turds probably:
1) Listen to hip-hop and 50 Cents.
2) Think they are "gangsta" (bling cars, gold teef, loud "music" in their rides, no respect for others, etc.).
3) Spend most Friday nights in some downtown hip-hop club
4) Probably met the victim at said club, where monsters like them look to take advantage of drunk young women
5) Already have a criminal history before this incident
6) don't listen to the Doors, Ray Charles, or Bob Dylan

They did not meet her at any club. The kidnapped her from her apartment. Evil, no-soul sickos. I wish we could start executing the parents of such cretins, there is no way in hades these horrors had a nice family life. Parents who don't raise their children with love should be treated how their children treat people. THEN, and ONLY then, MIGHT this type of madness stop. Start with Scott Peterson's parents and move on down the list.

@ bibi not all black men that are arrested are innocent im surprised you assume that, you must be a black person who believes themselves to be a victim of everything cause your black.... maybe the black father who threw his daughter strapped to her car seat in a creek is innocent also..or the murders who killed robert champion at FAMU are innocent also just cause their black....see where im getting with this??? you help to promote the stereotype that us black people use the race card so thanks alot for doing that. next time think about how you would feel if the person murdered was a family member of yours..are there cases of racism against blacks with the justice system (being pulled over for no reason other than driving a nice car etc.) yes but this is not one of those times

millions of africans over generations of time were imported into colonial America. This is by far the worst disaster of U.S. history.
Import is such a pretty word. I absolutely loved imported Tequila and something tells me it does not come in chains from the belly of a very large and packed ship. What if we just isolate this crime to one stupid young black person and try not to denigrate the whole race. Unless that is your thing.

It was other Africans!!! Usually, one tribe would defeat another tribe in battle and incorporate the conquered people into their tribe as slaves. To be used for their own needs, or to be sold off to the white man. And myself, I feel no culpability for African American slavery and any problems that have resulted from it. My people didn't get to America until @ 1900 & lived in New York State. Not a slavery hotbed. In fact, the Irish were treated like garbage in those early years, only to rely on their strong faith and strong families/communities to rise above humble beginnings to be major players in all areas of American society: politics, the arts, business, academics & sports to name a few. So yes, it is well passed time for African Americans to get their crap together, develop a real culture other than hip-hop or gangsta, have kids in a marriage....stay married, go to school, study & speak so that you might actually get hired for a job other than manual labor, and mostly stop f***ing shooting each other because you've been disrespected. It's a crying shame.
