A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck near the New Zealand city of Christchurch on Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey said on its website.
Amazing! It's been months since there was an earthquake anywhere...maybe years.
Actually there are earth quakes somewhere every day and that is nothing new. However, they are newsworthy when they are located where they cause damage. See:
I was in lima peru when the last one hit down there and it was scary i dont like earth quakes! Hope everybody is ok in new zealand i wish them the best
We're all gonna die!!!
Guaranteed by biology.
It's the end of the world! Repent and be saved! Jesus lives...
Another one? What's up with that place? One morning we'll just hear Christchurch has sunk into the ocean.
Unfortunately New Zealand is tectonically active, and terrible things are quite possible.
I didn't know they do fracking down there! Stop the madness people
You're absolutely kidding me, right? You think FRACKING caused a 5.8?
Talk to a geologist and get your facts straight.
Earthquakes are so racist.
ludacris, earth is mad.
Clearly Obushma's fault.
Daughter is in CC NZ, anyone with more update info pls. Praying.
We also had a 6.0 about 1 1/2 hours after the 5.8. There doesn't seem to be any major injuries – I don't know if you have been able to reach your daughter but power is out for approx.15,000 homes and cell service is overloaded, so if you can't reach her, that's probably why. The only way we can get through to someone who's power is out is to text them if they have a cell phone. If you want to get info on what's going on here in chch this is a pretty good site.
Hope all is well for your daughter.
Elmo was in Aukland and didn't feel anything.
That is like 9300 Quakes since September last year... Good Times here in Canterbury.
This is because they angered the earthquake gods!
I was going to tell them but the gods stopped me somehow. It must be magic.
Don't let the statistics fool you. We aren't having more earthquakes than before.
