Daughter of former Iranian leader gets prison time

Faezeh Hashemi, the daughter of former Iranian president, Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, was sentenced to six months in prison for making anti-government statements, semi-official Mehr News Agency reported Tuesday.

Hashemi was arrested last year for taking part in anti-government protests, and the announcement of her sentence comes as parliamentary elections near.

Her father, Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, is a powerful cleric and former parliament speaker. In the past, Rafsanjani has been one of the government's most vocal critics.
Rafsanjani served two terms as president from 1989 to 1997, and is still widely believed to be one of the wealthiest and most politically powerful men in Iran.

    @bernace and solitaire i have utmost respect for ur posts-i dont detect any guilty conscience pointing a finger or blindly following the propoganda in ur comments.banasy must have lived a sheltered life.she may have read some history but i lived the history of katrina and it has shown me alot that is wrong with this government especially those democrats and their gun control policies coddling illegal immigrants etc...

    Let me tell you something, hamsta, I am well versed in German history, not only because I've read a history book, but my family lived through it.
    In case you need a further explanation: I had relatives who were exterminated by the Nazis.
    And no, I'm not Jewish, either.
    I questioned you on a few of your views, that's all.

    I get from your various posts:
    You are unsatisfied with the way the Government under BUSH dealt with the aftermath of Katrina.
    So are many people.

    You think Obama, for whatever reason, is the source of all of the world's woes.

    I get that.

    What the government did during Katrina isn't a reflection of what Obama is doing today; as a matter of fact, Obama's administration has deported more illegals this year than any other President any other year...

    Why do I bother?
