Last night the Iowa caucuses kicked off the first contest of the 2012 election season. In the end, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney beat late front-runner Rick Santorum by just eight votes in a contest that carried into the early hours of the morning. And while it was an intense night of election coverage, CNN’s all-star political team was still able to have a little fun while delivering the results.
CNN political team's all-nighter – As the results of the Iowa Republican presidential caucuses continued to trickle in well past midnight, sleep deprivation began to take its toll on the CNN political team. The all-night caucus coverage carried on though, overcoming technology issues and heckling contributors.
Exclusive news from Edith and Carolyn – With results still missing from one Iowa precinct two women called into CNN and stole the show by breaking the final results that would determine the winner of the Iowa caucuses. As the final votes came down to the wire, Iowa GOP officials Edith Pfeffer and Carolyn Tallett set the record straight and delivered the missing results from Clinton County, Iowa.
CNN After Dark: CNN's newest show? – As the post-election coverage continued into early morning hours, sometime around 3:30 a.m. ET, it began to evolve into an entirely new CNN show. Unofficially dubbed “CNN After Dark,” the show became a hit online, resulting in a #CNNAfterDark hashtag and even an unofficial twitter account: @CNNAfterDark.
CNN – I must admit that was pretty funny.....good job keeping it funny when under the stress of a long day/morning..!
Intense. Intense? 9-11, THAT was intense. Iowa caucuses, bleh. TG for dvr.
LAWLZ, 9-11 was hilarious
Now is that bald guy Cooper's boyfriend?

CNN is always in the dark and always comedy so what's new there?
All this fuss about which also ran is going to lose to Obama in November. What's the point?
Wow the comments are horrible. The article is about how the anchors turned something bad into fun. This was about republican race not democratic. IA Republicans could not get it together until they found Edith and Carolyn. I loved the humor and watching the anchors kid each other. After the day and night they were having they deserve a little light time. I am sure CNN would have told them to chill if it were a problem. So how did we get on Obama? If you didn't like it you should have gone to sleep or changed the channel. Lighten up go watch FOX
Well said. Some people have absolutely no sense of humour. The CNN team was having some fun. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. People need to loosen up and stop criticizing everything.
I call shenanigans.
CNN is horrible...I still don't understand why I continue to come here for news. I wish they would understand that nobody cares, however they still have their heads so far up Obama's butt that it will never happen.. Tip to: Cooper, Blitzer, King and Gannon (who posted this crap) FOLLOW ACTUAL NEWS! Yes there stuff happened on your crappy show which no one stayed up to watch but rather passed it with it still on. No mention of what is going on in Yemen. Good to see your all having fun, while America continues to LIVE IN THE DARK. Thanks for this, really puts everything into perspective....
jayl...i will readily admit cnn has been biased –in fact, i have done this for some time-but common man, if you dont laugh at this youre being a total towel. TOWEL
Manufactured CNN hype. You could tell as it transpired that it was all deliberate, purposeful and staged. Sad production, CNN.
