Prosecutor asks death sentence for Mubarak

Prosecutors in the trial of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak formally requested a penalty of death by hanging for Mubarak and several of his fellow defendants Thursday, an attorney at the court said.

Mubarak is accused of ordering protesters killed during the country's uprising last year, and of corruption. He denies the charges.

Khaled Abu Bakr, a civil rights lawyer representing the families of victims at the trial, told CNN that prosecutors requested death by hanging for Mubarak, former Egyptian Interior Minister Habib El Adly and four of his six aides.

They asked for the maximum jail sentence for the two other aides on trial, Abu Bakr said.

The prosecutors' request came at the end of three days of prosecution arguments in a Cairo courtroom.

I don't believe in the death sentence. It is wrong and uncivilized. This is what separates us from the animal kingdom. Put him in jail for life.

Dictators note: This is what happens when you ally yourself with American interests.....After years of furthering American foreign policy in a chaotic region of the world........ Keeping a relative stable border with Israel...........Keeping wild eyed Islamic radicals from implementing their form of government. No there wasn't democracy.

@Anthoney AZ...Many Americans say don't believe in the death sentence. Millions of them prefer movies and games featuring humans being put to death, and still other Americans are ouright murderers. That leaves the rest of US who aren't into killing for entertainment yet believe a convicted murderer should be put out of his misery. At least you have HOLLYOOD on your side.

Mubarek, while being guilty of much manslaughter, should ne imprisoned for life. He, along with any who had crooked business dealings with him (aka bribes) should be forced to work out the rest of their days in a labor camp. Even if this means some Israelis and Americans go down with him. Mubarek didn't get to be worth billions by working hard for the Egyptian peoples. He took bribes. Find those who have been bribing him and drag them to Justice.

  11. Jew tunnel rat

Seldom mentioned by the major media are literally dozens and dozens of tummels running beneath Egypt's border with Israel. Mubarek allowed tese tunnels to operate just as various Israeli leaders have for decades. On one side you have an Arab collecting tolls on smuggled diamonds and Uzzi machine guns from a Jew. On the other side you might have a Jew collecting tolls on smuggled items for Israelis, Jews, Muslims, and Palestinians. Borders are for citizens, not profit. Force Mubarek and all the men who bribed him to fill these tunnels in by hand. The women can bring them water.

@ Tomcat. Good point. Lot's of world leaders are butt ugly people. Their faces tell the story...little beady eys too close together...dumb stare. Or having a nose the size of an extra large kosher picklr...same texture even. Or arm fat that sags almost as much as much as her double chin. I wonder what they look like from the inside. I would imagine much the same.

Yes he deserves to die like the rabid dictator he is! What I don't understand is why they've saved his life w/medication only to sentence him to death! They should've speeded up the court process, given him his sentence & denied the meds! Let him suffer while he's dying! Hanging is too humane for some1 so utterly inhumane! Mubarak is a "glorified criminal," as many government officials are, but his days of making himself rich on the backs of his people are over & I do hope any American official who has helped him & thusly helped themselves, will go down w/him! Humans can live better lives embracing honesty, integrity & consideration of others, than thru shady deals, thievery & grifts! All that does is upset the balance to the point of uprisings & wars! PS. Sorry to be a stickler, but it's MubarAk, not MubarEk, also not Imotep but Imhotep! Thanks!!
