Report: 11 killed in hot air balloon crash

Eleven people were killed in a hot air balloon crash near the town of Carterton, New Zealand, Saturday morning, according to Radio New Zealand, which quoted local health officials.

Reports of the crash, which happened nearly 90 kilometers northeast of Wellington, were first reported shortly before 7:30 a.m., Radio New Zealand reported.

A witness said the balloon was in flames as it descended, according to Radio New Zealand.

    It baffles me that there are so many people on here saying that they will never fly in a plane or step foot in a hot air balloon because of fear of dying in one. Yet if you tell them that the NUMBER ONE killer in America is heart disease, they will not change their unhealthy lifestyle in any way to prevent THAT slow death. That is some TWISTED logic. Take care of yourself, live your life with love instead of fear and let whatever will be, be. My condolensces to the families.

    I always thought that if I was on a plane and it was about to crash into the side of a mountain, I would wait until just before the moment of impact and jump straight up in the air.
