The coronavirus pandemic’s global death toll has reached 2 million. That’s as if 10 of the world's largest commertwitter.com/i/web/status/1…yN6S5j
At least six people were killed Friday night after a cruise ship ran aground near the Italian island of Giglio, Italy's ANSA news agency reported early Saturday.
I have worked on these ships in the past as Gift Shop Manager for 7 years and even Costa. Passengers are always told to go back to their cabins as they need to retrieve their lifejacket and read the instructions in multiple languages on the back of the cabin door. In this case there appears to have been time to do this. These pax just left port and did not go through the drill yet. Yes, there are additional jackets in containers on deck, but not enough for 4,000 pax and 1,000 crew. A captain such as the 2nd Captain or Staff Captain may have left the vessel to ensure the lifeboat and raft evacuation which is part of his duty. Someone of the staff should be down in the water first to direct the lifeboat procedures from the water.
One American woman was quoted as saying that she was in the main dinning room, dressed for dinner, and didn't have time to get to her cabin for warm clothes (or life jacket). Apparently, the crew did an excellent job in handling the passengers. She also mentioned that because of the extreme list of the ship, there was a problem with launching some of the life boats. Still, the rescue effort must have been heroic and gone well. Evacuation of some 4000 passengers is no easy task.
Lobster is another food of which I can't get enough.
It's time consuming, though. I can do it without a big mess.
One night I had to play in that NW coastal area with the great seafood, and I took it on myself to work through a dinner of king crab's legs before the recital.
I learned the lesson of scratched fingers on piano keys that night. Ouch.
evacuation plan is nil for quick evacuation. you assign a station to MUST report to no matter where you are on the ship...so you can't report to the nearest evac. life preservers are in your room...in emergency situ you supposed to go to the room for life vests...riduculous....4000 people couldn't do it during the drill...quickly....handicap and slow moving elderly people consider yourself a
gonna...they use a weak alert so noisy area will not hear and there's no speaker in the room nor ring system on room phones...no contingency plan for failure...please revamp your emergency plan...so sorry for the
victims.
s kel hello sir, it has been a long time since i have read something from you. Our Rams year was done after our 2nd win of the season. (and many of sit thru loss games) Glad to see gungs detroit team do better this year. I do not know if sitting thru another season of this is fun anymore. Good luck to you and your team.
What a tragic accident! This will surely hurt the cruise industry for awhile. Maybe the cruise ships have become too large and are really not safe now. There have been a series of fires and illnesses prior to this horrible accident. Is anyone looking into the safety factor industry wide?
hahhahahah Apparently, the crew did an excellent job in handling the kids and families. She also mentioned that because of the extreme list of the ship, there was a problem with launching some of the life boats, which is strange.Still, the rescue effort must have been gone well.
