Source: White House to announce opposition to Keystone pipeline project

The Obama administration will likely announce its opposition to the controversial Keystone pipeline project as early as today, according to a Democratic source briefed on the matter.

The pipeline would run from northern Alberta in Canada down to Texas's Gulf Coast. Republicans and some unions want to push approval through for the project in favor of the job creation prospects. The administration points to environmental reviews still underway and opponents express concerns about the nation's oil dependency being further embraced in regards to not rushing a decision.

The president has again done the right thing for this country. The republicans want to push this through quickly, because they know once the impact review is completed, it will show just how bad this project will be for the environment. Like I said before, concentrate on jobs to repair our infrastructure first. Those are jobs that will last for a whole lot longer than this pipeline.

Agree with Bobcat, and very few reporters, etc. have hit the mark.as to why this pipeline is soo important. It is important to big business, which would include big oil. We DON'T NEED more oil. We import oil and then refine it and EXPORT gasoline, diesel, and other refined products. WE export as much or more than we import. Where do you think the Canadian oil will go in the end? Why are gas prices so high if we are exporting product? Wall street makket makers!!

Do your homework folks, This has nothing to do with jobs, the economy, or shortage of oil!!

We already import more oil from Canada that any other simgle exporter.

      What a crock.

I want to make money out of oil two ways.
    1. I want you to pay me to pump it out of the ground and refine it for your use.
    2. I want you to pay me to deliver oil to you. Now that can have a variety of routes, and depending on the route, I make different amounts of money. It's kind of like my driving you from a Manhattan hotel to the JFK airport by going first to the Newark airport. I can make a lot of money just delivering oil and driving you to JFK.
I really can have two corporations doing well.
So why would I want to advocate, as BOMBO suggested, an oil self-sufficient NAFTA zone? It doesn't make any sense: I'm in business for the money.
Really, I don't care whether you freeze to death in the winter or stay warm. I want my check.

Oil is on its way out. Let's get ahead of the other resources and use them. Nuclear should be on its way out tool Then the terrorist have nothing to bomb and cause chaos.

Water, wind, sun, and geothermal take your pick. Only congress will not let that happen, they will not pass legislation for them to get money (subsidies) like the oil companies do for development.

Bamarama playing politics as usual. Canada seeems to have no problem building a pipeline to their west coast to export their oil to Asia. If yo build Keystone, we can delivver oil to the Gulf Coast whewre it can be refined and exported to other countries. What great sense!

So why don't they refine it and sell it to us? It is tooo expensive. It is a bad idea for this country.
