Fed to keep rates low until 2014

The economy is improving, the Federal Reserve said Wednesday, but not enough to warrant higher interest rates for at least two-and-a-half more years.

The central bank indicated that it expects to keep the federal funds rate near historic lows until late 2014 - an extension from the Fed's original pledge to keep rates low through mid 2013.

The "economy has been expanding moderately, notwithstanding some slowing in global growth," the Fed said in a statement Wednesday.

More details will be released at 2 p.m. ET, when the Fed will release forecasts for the federal funds rate for the first time ever.

Well, there you have it...And for all the unfortunate senior citizens and upcoming retirees, if you are looking to invest in safe Certificate of Deposit accounts to preserve your principal balance, you are out-of-luck on obtaining a decent ROI until Ben Bernanke & Co. starts pushing the FFR up. Thank heaven for fixed-rate and fixed-indexed annuities as the stock market is way too volatile for the elder population !!!!

Every american with common sense would agree with Obama because they have a president that represent them not here at home but globally liked. There is an assignment from the white to stop Obama by any means necessary and a good example of that was Rep. Gifford who was avictim of the Tea Party uprising. In 2010, these guys went to washington promising that they will create jobs and they have not done nothing yet.

herold, that was low! There is no way the tea party was responsible for Ms. Giffords shooting. You sir/mam are stating facts that are so untrue and low its hard to believe. How is this shooting the fault of the tea party? They have never endorsed violence and as far as I know have never even verbally attaced Ms. Gifford. Please explain and backup your post. Also the promise to create jobs came from your own President not the republicans. The Republicans just recently won back congress. The Democrats have been in control of both houses for years. And for years our country has been headed down hill fast.

An example of blind GOP opposition, "Starting Point with Soledad O'Brien"-CNN:

I know CNN is having serious problems getting their audience back. But, when folks got tired of watching left or right minded morning news they always had CNN to fall back on. Now you've got 'Morning Joe' on CNN. When both O'briens were on CNN in the morning I don't remember Soledad O. being so obviously far left as she is. I am an open-minded right leaning independent who found a sanctuary in CNN's no fluff 'middle of the road' approach for morning world news. We can't watch O'brien's contempt for Republicans with her smirks, 'yea rights', raised eyebrows and all the other mannerisms her and MOST of her guests use in their vain attempt at morning news!
CNN, you can and have done better than this! Thanks from a long-time, part-time viewer.

Anyone who believes in fairness would buy what he's saying. The GOP only idea is to screw us like they did before under both bush administrations. All the presidents policies are working just like the rescue of our people and the killing of Osama. Only a blind man couldn't see that or a racist. Both of them live in the dark and they claim to love Jesus. Key word claim!!!
