Judge orders man to take his wife out to dinner, buy her flowers

A marital dispute has resulted in an unusual court ruling in Florida. Broward County Circuit Court Judge John Hurley ordered 47-year-old Joseph Bray of Plantation, Florida, to buy his wife flowers and take her out to dinner, among other things.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that instead of setting bond for a domestic violence charge, the judge ordered the man to take his wife on a date and then undergo counseling.

"He's going to stop by somewhere, and he's going to get some flowers," Hurley said during the first appearance hearing. "And then he's going to get a card, he's going to get flowers, and then he's going to go home and pick up his wife, get dressed, take her to Red Lobster. And then after they have Red Lobster, they're going to go bowling."

The Sentinel reported that Bray's wife told Hurley the couple's fight started after her husband didn't acknowledge her birthday. She told the judge she didn't get hurt during the argument and was not afraid of her spouse.

Hurley read from an arrest affidavit that Bray pushed his wife, held up his fist and put his hand on her neck but never hit her during the incident.

"I want him to come home," she told the judge.

Hurley's judicial assistant told CNN that Hurley "doesn't comment on open cases to the media," but said the judge doesn't take any of his cases lightly and considers all of them important matters.

CNN contacted the Bray family, but they refused to comment on the case.

that is the stupidest thing ever! It just goes to show how domestic abuse is still not taken seriously. He 'forgot' her birthday, like all abusers 'forget' anything important, she gets upset, he gets angry because she's upset with him, then he intimidates her through physical violence & emotional abuse. He raises his fist, makes motions like he's going to choke her but doesn't, one day, some times, some where...this guy will snap & break that woman in two..
she wants him home? because through years of eroding her self esteem she sees no life without him. I hope she reads this

Domestic Violence is a sad, but the one thing you don't hear were the actions of the wife/female. Did she yell, did she pester him? I'm sure she did, but yet domestic violence can be someone making the other person feel uncomfortable. I'm glad to see many males recognizing that the domestic violence establishment is what it is, a corrupt money making scheme that throws men in jail without any due process. False accusations plague the system and need to be dealt with so when someone is injured as a result of DV it's taken seriously.

    • Pester him?

Did she yell? Did she pester him? EVEN if she did, that is no excuse for a man to put his hands on her. He pushed her, he put his hands on her neck. That's domestic violence. He should be in jail. That the woman wants him home is sad. She should have taken the chance to get away from him.

This is sad. To think a judge can order someone what to do with their wife is nuts. Second the problem with domestic violence is it's flawed. The affidavit is based on one persons interpretation of what happened, and that one person usually the women is going to generally lie, and the man will go to jail. I have seen men call the cops on their wives only to be thrown in jail because of the VAWA law. I hope the feminists are happy. Yes they got favortism in the courts now, but they also got generations of males who want no part of marriage because they know it's a bad deal. And of course society asks why are men not getting married like they were? It's simple, because they have seen their friends, and family go through divorces, not see their kids alot, pay too much for child support, and be pushed into poverty.
    It's not worth it!
