Fans, celebrities react to Whitney Houston's death: 'We will always love you'

Legendary pop singer Whitney Houston has died at age 48, representative Kristen Foster said Saturday night.

The cause of death and where she died were not immediately known. In May 2011, Houston got help for her much-publicized struggle with drugs and alcohol, her representative said at the time.

According to her official website, Houston, who struggled with addiction problems over the years, sold more than 170 million albums, singles and videos over her career.

As news of her death spread online her fans and celebrities tweeted that they were absolutely shocked and saddened at the news.

First of all – congrads to Ozzy for officially outliving Whitney. Ozzy cleaned up and Whitney didn't. We all have choices.

Second of all – Van Halen's new album totally rocks. Congrads boys for rocking steady!

We have lost a beautiful woman with a beautiful voice way too young. She now sings with the angels and our loss is their gain. May her family, friends and us, her fans, find peace and listen to her music with smiles instead of tears some day.

We Canadians were affected by this loss. It's tremendous. Whitney was a powerhouse waiting to release. Unfortunately, God said she had had enough. We lost Michael and now we've lost Whitney. I will always remember both. Despite the drugs, I will always remember how she gave thanks to God and I have no doubt that she is with Him now. Thank you Whitney for your Gift.

Another person who had the world by the tail and blew it because of drugs. Looks like "Crack Is Not Whack".

  6. damage done

unfortunately for addicts, even if they clean up, the damage done from years of abuse sometimes just takes it's toll. and sometimes, people just die because it is their time. calling her a crack ho or mocking her is not funny or clever. it is mean and makes you the smallest person in the room. Whitney had a huge incredible voice, and we will probably not hear another like it for some time.

She sang what I consider to be one of the best, if not the best, and most dramatic version of the National Anthem with the Marine Band, I ever heard!

I agree. If I'm not mistaken that was in 1992-93 at he superbowl. I remember that it stayed at the top of the charts for about 4 months which even at that time was considered remarkable. RIP Whitney. We will always miss you.
