Whitney Houston remembered

The death of singer Whitney Houston shocked many, and the outpouring of love for her has been memorable. Her fame as an artist, actress and model are well documented, but perhaps it is the touching stories by those closest to her that remind us of who she was as a person. The following clips move beyond the star, reminding us that underneath the glitz was a mother, daughter and friend.

Whitney Houston's death 'surreal'

Gospel singer Kim Burrell held a close relationship with Whitney over the years. She spoke to CNN about losing a good friend and “wonderful spirit.” Through her tears, Kim provides a touching tribute to the late singer.

Davis: I'm devastated by loss of Whitney

Music Executive Clive Davis may have discovered Whitney Houston but their relationship ran much deeper than mere business. Hosting his annual pre-Grammies party the day she died, Mr. Davis admits to the tragedy of her death and asks Sean Combs, Alicia Keyes and Tony Bennett to speak to how Houston personally touched their lives.

Bobby Brown: Pray for me

Whitney Houston had a tumultuous relationship with her ex-husband Bobby Brown, but perhaps his performance the night she died captures some of emotion once held between the two. IReporter Moshiu Knox captures one of the heartfelt moment on stage.

making comments that serve only to elicit anger/resentment from other readers demonstrates the lowest form of human intelligence.

People who do that have one objective: To make themselves feel superior by having the opposing viewpoint. They think they are unique and special because they aren't "following the herd." They don't realize however, that they are just as guilty of following a herd, with the addition of shedding light on their immaturity.

It's just as easy for me to think of Whitney's faults as her accomplishments. That takes very little brain power. Yes, she had a drug problem - everybody gets that. What takes more brain power is to juggle all of those together and realize that she also was a human being who had to deal with domestic abuse, had to deal with the pressure of always being in the spotlight amongst all of this... Most drug addicts are addicts because of problems they had before the addiction, not the other way around.

Danny, do YOU have a dictionary? One of the English language? Then you should try picking it up, and you will know there is no such word as "inebidible" I suppose you mean "inevitable". Before you insult others, make sure you have it all together. And, yes, her death could be described as tragic (the adjective that describes the noun "tragedy")

If someone with cancer or a child with Muscular Dystophy died today, they'll vanish out of this realm of existence with no tears and fanfare. So sad, any human life lost is heartbreaking but the Sainthood I see revolving around Whitney from some is bizarre.

First, it IS a shame for any 48 yr olds life to be cut so short, and my condolences to all those effected by losing Whitney Houston, regardless of her fame and forturn, to her mother, her child and friends and other family memebers she was and always will be a regular human being. As far as all this media attention, look-understandable it will be plastered all over the place for the next year BUT have some damn RESPECT for anyone who may be on the forum boards who Miss Houston may have touched. IF THIS WAS your loved one, you wouldnt want the entire nation treating assuming and slandering your loved one so badly. She had trouble with drugs , OK so dont ALOT of people, doesnt make you a bad person and if your judging SOLEY on the drugs and her reality show, remember ....they have an editing team and its all for the ratings! I find it so hard to believe that EVERYBODY with such ignorance in their posts...doesnt have or at least know ONE person who has fallen victim to drugs or alcohol. GROW UP! NOW THE OTHER THING IS--WHILE ALL OF THIS IS GOING ON IN THE WORLD, on or after the same day as Whitney passed, WE lost ANOTHER to Cancer, after a long battle ....it has taken her away. Of course, she has no fame and glory sooooo its another life that has slipped away with NO cares of anybody in the world ecept for those who were effected. Death is a guarantee, lets stop judging people for what may have killed them, or what they may have done to contribute and reflect on their life and have respect for others!

Some people with absolutely zero talent are put on pedistals everyday. Whitney Houston deserves to be put on a pedestal because she worked dang hard to get there. My love is your love, Whitney Houston.. always and FOREVER!

Thank you CNN from refraining from tabloid style journalism in your coverage of the tragic death of the very talented Ms. Whitney Houston. She moved us with her angelic voice and provided such a gift of music to us all. I hope that other news mediums follow your lead of professional journalism when covering this legendary singer who touched the souls of so many of us.

She grew up in church singing in the choir. I remember when she came on the scene in the 80's. Young, beautiful, talented and happy. Many have said that Darryl Strawberry, professional athlete first introduced her to coke. He's clean now but almost died himself. She and Bobby Brown were interdependent addicts. He didn't kill her, addiction did. I think Whitney is in heaven with her Dad. She never really got over his death a few years ago. She was a great talent with faith. Unfortunately, the perils of this world overcame her and she probably passed away due to heart failure, respiratory failure, or a toxic mix of drugs together. I doubt seriously if she planned it. She's out of pain and leaves behind a daughter. We are all human and we all die. She just left a little too soon.

It has been quite a schoczer to hear of the passing of Whitney. She had a God given voice which comes in once in a while.
She will be missed and my heart goes out to her Mother, Daughter and the entire family. Hiowever, she will be with us
when we leswst expect, helping to guide us through the darkness.

She is singing with the Angeles in Heaven and he who gave her that beautiful voice will again enjoy hearing it.

Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe,Amy Winehouse Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston.... no you cant blame this on Dr Murray.

Is the Music Industry to blame? All you folks killing themselves for these record contracts to keep the payments up on your lifestyle ??? Why is it we don't see any Music Company Executives doing the same thing you entertainers do?

Finally – someone with some sense!! First of all, my condolences for the loss of a very talented Super Star – Whitney Houston. My heart goes out to her family, friends and especially to Bobbi Christine.
Bobby Brown is not to blame for this at all. Yes, Whitney became an addict while married to Bobbi, but he did not make her become an addict. They both fed off each other – good and bad. Their relationship was ADICTIVE! The worst thing Whitney did for herself was to air her life in their reality show – this program showed the true Whitney Houston as a person. Not flatering at all!! I gained a whole new respect for Bobby Brown when he and Whitney divorced. Not once has he ever said anything publicly negative about Whitney – she on the other hand had a lot to say about Bobbi in many interviews. That certainly proves the character of Bobby over Whitney. I certainly have wondered when the day would come that they would announce Bobby's death. I was surprised when they announced her death, but not at all shocked. It's sad, very very sad to see such talented people loose their way with this kind of result. But we have to remember, they are human and regular people who make choices.
Secondly – she was never able to make a true come back. Not many were buying her music, or attending her performances because of her downfall. Jokes where made about her, people scoffed and laughed at her. But now that she is gone its amazing how her record sales are just going off the charts and people are claiming their undying love for her!!! Is this not hypocritical? Rest in Peace Whitney!!

Exactly. Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown were codependent drug addicts. This happens all the time, not just to famous people. Smokers, drinkers, drug addicts all hang out together. They enjoy the same vice and that is the pull that brings them together. I have a family member who struggle with alcoholism. This one woman and he were such nice people when sober, but hideous when drinking together. They split up, thank God, or they'd both be dead. Friends and families from both sides were telling them to split, but they just couldn't see it because of their addiction. Both of them still drink but are 100 times better and more in control because they split up.
