Coalition: Quran burning at Afghan base "a mistake"

Some Qurans and other Islamic religious materials gathered for disposal from a detention facility at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan were improperly burned, the commander of the International Security Assistance Force said Tuesday.

"This was not a decision that was made because they were religious materials," Gen. John Allen said. "It was not a decision that was made with respect to the faith of Islam. It was a mistake. It was an error. The moment we found out about it, we immediately stopped and we intervened."

Hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside the airfield Tuesday, furious over reports of the burning.

Why is it that if a Qur'an, a Bible, a Talmud and a Tao Te Ching were all burned together, the only ones that would think they should go killing people about it is these knuckleheads? It truly is a shame they have oil over there, otherwise we really could just let them rot like the idiots they are.

Oh come on, don't go so easy on him. It's a bit like saying "Hitler was a bit of a guy". Tell us what you really think.

These folks will find ANY reason to raise a fuss! This is an example of the sort of primitive religious zealotry that makes that whole area of the world unstable and in constant state of chaos and infighting. All reasons to let these Muslims find their own solutions for their own problems and not intervene in their endless violence or get involved in trying to drag them kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

So, what's the logic behind the demonstrations?

    – Oh no, they burned the Quran! Now it is lost forever and now no one can ever read the quran again!
    – Oh no, we must defend Allah, because he is powerless to defend himself!
    – Oh no, there is now burned Quran smoke in the air, and we will all be destroyed by the anger of Allah!

    Seriously, I don't get it.

...and if it were seriously a mistake, it would die down peacefully...but here's the MSM to fan the flames...pun intended.

      I don't get it, either.
Although I can tell you that emotions would be filled to overflowing if a Muslin accidently burned a Bible...

We are doing just great. Bomb, invade & occupy a country and then burn their holy book too. Ignorant of the fact that a billion and a half people inhabiting this planet hold that book sacred.

No wonder our strategic position in that entire region is weakening by the day and with all our military might & fire power we are losing it. Other powers like Russia, China, India sitting quietly on the sidelines smirking and consolidating their influence.

Great scholar on Islam that you are. I wish you would read up on what great western scholars (non-muslim) have been saying about Quran & Mohammad.
Read Goethe,G.Margoliouth,J.M.Rodwell,Gandhi,bernard Shaw,Washington Irving,Edward Gibbon,Michael Hart,Maurice Bucaille, Dr.Steingass the list is endless. It would greatly change your 'view'.
Its always better to get informed when voicing an 'expert' opinion.

Re Bible burning, go ahead and burn it, I know it's just an insult and I won't bite. There's plenty more where they came from. If it's a big problem, JC and his Dad will take care of it, they don't need my help.

They had to burn a koran because its already full of crap so it wouldnt be useful to wipe your butt with.i would say throw the koran in the toilet but 1000 pages of scott tissue would clog the toilet.
