Scientists getting clearer picture of 'God particle'

This could be the year of the Higgs boson, the most sought-after particle in all of physics. More clues about it are emerging at a U.S.-based collider whose budgetary woes shut it down last year.

The Department of Energy’s Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) has just announced that it has found hints of the ever-so-important particle, which are consistent with observations from the Large Hadron Collider.

Finding the Higgs boson would help explain the origin of mass, one of the open questions in physicists' current understanding of the way the universe works.

anyone care to tell me why some sort of intelligence had to be involved to make this all happen? it's alleged over and over, yet no one says what they base that on. hearsay, i guess..

sh!t happens all the time. why is a planet supporting life so unbelievable? is it that no one can grasp how insignificant we really are?

you have to look no farther than the platypus. god's little joke, or sh!t happening? intelligence? is that why i get blood clots in my legs while you do not? is that why some people have downs syndrome? or dyslexia?

there is no grand design, and we really are on our own. embrace the horror.

...there is no god particle, spear of destiny, or the holy grail...just a bunch of morons looking to tear the fabric of the universe, kill the ozone, or dull the sun...whatever happened to limiting mindless tinkering to one's gargage or basement?

@leeintulsa,, its called other sheep that god has and is not of this fold(earth) them he must also bring! One fold and one shepered. If you know how to research the scriptures than you will find it! It takes intelligence to creat light in which that light is matter.

@superman: fire is not intelligent, yet creates light. like the sun..?

God cannot be matter, a particle, or an old man with a beard.
Talk to me about Spirit, if you want to discuss God.
    Otherwise, talk about particles.

America is getting a clearer picture of the elusive spendthrift particle...and this too "has nothing to do with G_d.

The problem with particle events in accelerators is that first we mostly postulate them theoretically then want to see them buried in a lot of noise. Just spotting a few of them makes us believe that our whole theory is right. However, it may not be so; they just could be freak fragments, like the ones we get after an earthquake, the fragments are not exactly what went into building those structures. Higgs boson also is part of that slightly deluding scientific approach.

Gravity has roots in some very apparent physics. laugh it off, as it's not easy to realize that basic quantum leap itself is a source of gravitation.

@joey i said god created intelligence, which light ,is matter, which matter is god given do you not see it? God is intelligence of the simplist kind! He gave us light, ( old testament) inwhich that light is matteryou must not know how to read i said research it. Its there! And get off the 'LSD excuse or take a day off to recover. LOL

      Superman:
      Joey said nothing about light.
Lee refered to light, ie: fire.
      Mmmm reffered to LSD.

      Follow the bouncing particle. 🙂

@chrissy: it's just quicker to write 'you people' or 'goddies' then 'muslims/hindus/buddhists/jews/christians/any other religion past, present, and future'. and most of the time, i am talking about them all.. no hostility 🙂

I feel empathy for those who do not believe in GOD. Wait until you draw that final breath and wonder if maybe you were wrong. If you do not believe in God I feel sorry for you. He is so real!

hey dott@dott, people who search for the god particle usually don't believe in God they are "intellectually" atheistic...

The fact that people are calling it the god particle and looking for an explanation just kinda tells me that their beliefs are mixed....
