Public assistance pulled from lottery winner

A Michigan woman who won the lottery but continued to receive food assistance from the state government has had her benefits pulled, officials said.

Amanda Clayton hit it big playing the Michigan Lottery. Like many winners, she used her $1 million prize to buy a new house.

But the Lincoln Park, Michigan, resident continued to receive money in another form - $200 a month in state food assistance, according to CNN Detroit affiliate WDIV.

Her story made headlines, and on Thursday, the state's Department of Human Services announced that she is no longer getting the benefits.

According to Michigan law, welfare recipients must report any changes in assets or income to the agency within 10 days.

The department "relies on clients being forthcoming about their actual financial status. If they are not, and continue to accept benefits, they may face criminal investigation and be required to pay back those benefits," Director Maura Corrigan said in a statement.

Socialism means we all must share, no matter how much or how little we work.

Is that how it's done in Canada, BOMBO?
Because the United States isn't a socialist economy, no matter how one spins it.

    From Merriam-Webster online:

1: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods

2a : a system of society or group living in which there is no private property b : a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state

3: a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done

    Examples of SOCIALISM
She is quite right, for example, to stress that Thatcher's crusade against socialism was not merely about economic efficiency and prosperity but that above all, “it was that socialism itself—in all its incarnations, wherever and however it was applied—was morally corrupting.” —Stephen Pollard, New York Times Book Review, 18 Jan. 2009

Throw the item in the dryer.
According to Jeff Foxworthy, "Warm = Clean."

I love how your example of socialism was in refernce to England.

Webster's notwithstanding, the US isn't a socialist economy driven country, and we are trying to get that through someone's head.

I just checked, if you route through Minneapolis on the way to Edmonton, it's about 16 hours. And that's just one way. So, no good.

@chrissy yes i can.his policies have destroyed millions of jobs.obama wants you dependent on the government.he praises the occupy movement and is working to destroy capitalism.under capitalism the government is dependent on business not the other way around.there will be poor people no matter what system is in place.capitalism gives the common citizen the fairest chance at success.under socialism everyone is poor and only the government is rich.thomas jefferson said these two relevant things:1 tyranny is when the citizens fear the government but freedom is when the government fears the citizens.2 freedom stops when those who dont work outweigh those who do work. and you wonder why obama and his liberal socialist progressives demonize thomas jefferson?dont worry history will name obama as the worst president and prove jefferson correct yet again.that is why conservatives call obama the food stamp president.it has nothing to do with race.

Hamsta, you are so FOS, your eyes are probably brown. You are an admitted liar who cannot keep up with his lies. You are illiterate and your posts are painful to read. Do NOT blame your phone. It is YOU.

What the reality of the situation is that you didn't get what you wanted when in the aftermath of Katrina. Period. You therefore make up crap to try and smear the people who DO and DID get some help. Pathetic. You should reevaluate what it is you really are about, because you look like a tiny little man who is the biggest whiner on these boards. Your thought process is more scattered than buckshot. And you STILL make no sense.

Food stamps are not federal, therefore not a part of Obama, no matter what Rushie boy says to you. Be quiet. You haven't any idea of what you're talking about.

@hamsta: hungry people will find food. if not through social programs, then through your refrigerator.. do you think the poor designed these programs? it was the government trying to fight crime and preserve property values.. as much as you hate them, i'm sure you'd hate quitting your job so you can stay home and defend your food from the great unwashed every day at least as much..

i'm sure you are big, bad, and armed. so are the poor...

@hamsta: i do agree that government should be out of the welfare business. but it isn't. you can strive to change the game without hostility or anger. the way you come off is.. rude and hateful? it makes me want to argue with you.. even if you make sense lol

we don't need bit ch in and suffering. we need answers.

would i strive to change it if i was in a position to? you bet.

charitable organizations with fat donors are already in place. with less taxes, more people who would like to give would have more to give. those organizations would recieve incentives to grow, and new ones would come into being. jobs.. a twofer.. people who lost their govt job would have private sector jobs to go to, and then some..

the government's roll would be 1 dude. ok, three.. they'll need time off and what not.. to update and manage the directory computer that had an 800 number so anyone anywhere could call and find out where food and other resources are.

    basicly? privatization.
