Kofi Annan meets with Syrian president; Qatar says it's time to send troops

A former United Nations secretary-general met with Syria's president Saturday in the latest diplomatic attempt to halt the bloodshed in the country.

But on the same morning, at least 15 people died from fresh violence across Syria, opposition activists said.

Kofi Annan, the joint special envoy to Syria for the United Nations and the Arab League, met President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus "to seek an urgent end to ... human rights violations and to initiate efforts to promote a peaceful solution" to the violence that has wracked the country for nearly a year, his spokesman said.

Time is running out for a diplomatic way of ending the crisis, said Haytham Manna of the opposition Coordinating Committee of Democratic Transition in Syria.

"We are at the last moments of reaching a political solution. We are getting to the point of no return," said Manna, a Paris-based dissident. "If we can't reach a political agreement today, we will head toward the abyss. ... The regime is pushing the country as a whole toward a full scale armed struggle between the very well organized military institution and our people."

An Arab problem. Qatar is right. Its Arabs who should send in their troops to protect the people. Its not for us to start another bombing campaign on a foreign land.

While on the M.East. Israeli airstrikes kill 15 palestinians wounding at least 22.
According to IDF this is in response to "90" rocket attacks that may have injured 4 Israelis. which was in response to... and that was in response to.....
Let's give the regime more bombs and planes they are now asking for and then do them another favor and start bombing Iran.

That would be a service to the world peace, stability and make it a livable world for all.
    Have a nice weekend all.

with the amount of money we spend on bombs and warfare... we could have world peace and send every one to colledge and feed the hungry and put a shopping mall on the moon...

Think about it, Eric.Wouldn't God have given your body *natural* defense mechanisms to fight off a headache?
And about the water.. I wouldn't go for tap water, seeing that, it's with in the same pipeline we use to flush toxins with.
Bottle would the only water sailing down my throat! 😉

You may not know this, but most bottled waters are the same as what comes through your tap. They put it through a double filtering system, and you have crystal clear water And you can buy a filtering system, quite economically, that will do the same job at home..

A lady I work with kept bringing bottled water that had a very pretty label; I don't remember what the name of it was, but it had tropical fish on it, I think.
One day, she was getting it out of her drawer to open, and it had stuff floating in it.
It looked like goldfish poo, or something.
She looked at the case she had bought, and ¾ of them were contaminated...
      Bottled water isn't infallible, either.
      I agree with bobcat.

I agree, we don't need to be war mongers, but I don't put much faith in the Arab League. They're too busy shopping, vacationing in Dubai and frequenting clubs throwing millions of dollars at showgirls to worry about Syrians. The sheiks are self absorbant human-right violators, themselves whose only common thread is their hatred for infidels.

I wish we could change the world, but I agree with Ruff Nutt and Say What, America needs to be liberated… free from outside influence and bombardment of Chinese dependancy. We could do a lot better at exercising our freedom before we try, in vain, to liberate the world.

Praying for peace in Syria and freedom for all…

Yeah....Chevy Volt....absolutley remarkable. Nothing more than a electric forklift with plastic, metal, and glass artwork hanging on it. Drive your precious Volt over to Clark for modification. Then you can have the ability to pick up skids.

I agree totally...but they seem to be sitting on their hands...
This has gone on long enough.
I no longer give a darn about the mechanics behind the scenes...we need solutions!

Actually the average American "could" afford an electric forklift "cheaper" than a Chevy Volt.
