Suicide attack at funeral kills at least 11 in Pakistan

A suicide bomber targeted a funeral in northwest Pakistan on Sunday, killing at least 11 people and wounding 30 others, officials said.

The blast took place just outside Peshawar, the capital of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, said city police official Kalam Khan.

While no one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, authorities believe the target may have been members of the Awami National Party.

Khushdil Khan, a party member who is the deputy speaker of the provincial assembly, had gone to the funeral for a local woman. But he left before the attack occurred, police said.

The Awami National Party, which is part of the governing coalition led by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani's Pakistan Peoples Party, is often targeted by the Taliban.

In February, an explosion outside a political rally in northwest Pakistan killed five people and wounded 10, officials said.

One has to understand the dynamics that gave birth to this madness which rules that region from the day 'War on terror" was undertaken and Pakistan recruited as our front line partner. One has also to get a sense of the terrain and geographical make up of these two countries almost un-separable for thousands of years.

Its not that the people are suffering for giving refuge to elements of Al-Qaeda @ chrissy its the other way around. They are killed as easy targets for Pakistan govt's "crime' of helping us hunt and kill them. In Waziristan Pakistan army has been waging a war against militant for a decade now at a considerable cost to them in lives.

Maybe you're right, but Al Q is there and have been in Palistan for a lot longer than the war on terrorism ever started. Within their government and military are a lot of Al Q sympathizers giving them homage. Kinda like leaving the wolves in charge of the hen house.

I really don't see how these people could show anymore mental sickness. I don't understand the reasoning behind suicide bombings to start with, but the way they attack funerals goes totally beyond any kind humanitarian feelings.

Yes, it is a crime, not a "crime", for a Muslim to assist the invading infidels. (According to their own Koran) One problem might be people ignoring their holy books. If everyone paid attention to them, Christian nations wouldn't be invading Muslim nations, and so there wouldn't be any invading infidels for Muslims to repel. And ther wouldn't be any "Renegade Muslims" siding with the invaders. Happy days would be here. Stamp-out organized religion today!

@Jeff. They are promised heavenly life if they fall on God's battlefield, same as US. (they do get a 70 virgin tip if they die during jihad though. But they are are all female virgins...no boys. So we don't see many Catholic leaders converting to Islam)

Didn't you yourself say that there was nowhere in the Koran that promised them that virgin garbage?
Therefore, your gratuitous BS about the priests is irelevant.

If I remember correctly, the pilots used
in the 9/11 attacks were recruited by bin
Laden from and trained in Pakistan. Was
it such a surprise that, in the end, he was
found living blocks away from an airforce

"Al Q" is an orginization brought into being by funding from the criminal al C.I.Aeda. You are correct in that it isn't a religion. For reporting on happenings in the M.E. by sources that do not have an agenda and state ALL the facts, not just stories made to make American foriegn policy look soooo humanitarian, try the ArabDigest .com. You might be supprised to find that there are lists of atrocities happening in the great pro-west Saudi Arabia and not just in the democratically elected Syria as "reliable sources" such as Danny and his boss would like you to believe.

      Hi, Rev.

That the Saudis are duplitious is widely known; that they are right up there in the inhumane treatment of their citizens, espcially women, is also known.
Not every American is willfully ignorant...

      Hi banasy,
I definately was not talking to you. I know you don't like kool-aid...lol. It's funny to me sometimes that this stuff never gets reported unless there's a regime that has to be removed. I think it's also ironic that our M.E. allies that support democracy soooo much that none of them have one. You know I just like to pop in on the comments once in a while when I'm out of tin foil hats.
Gota work. Have a good night banasy.
