At least 45 women and children have been stabbed and burned to death in the Syrian city of Homs, opposition activists said.
The massacre took place late Sunday after peace talks between a U.N. special envoy and the Syrian regime failed to yield a cease-fire, activists said.
The slaughter was in the Karm al Zaytoun neighborhood, according to the Local Coordination Committees of Syria, an opposition network. The Adawiya neighborhood of Homs was also involved, according to the London-based Syrian Network for Human Rights.
Children were stabbed to death in front of their mothers, and women and minor girls were sexually assaulted before being shot, according to the human rights network.
FULL STORY
I just read a report now stating that key Al Jazeera journalists have resigned because of the media house's deliberate attempts to misrepresent facts in Syria. I am apt at this point however to quesiton:
WHO BENEFITS IF THE MEDIA MAKES A LOT OF NOISE ABOUT THE KILLING OF INNOCENT CIVILIANS?
I don't think the government of Syria does – which makes me wonder why they will continue killing people even when it is obvious that this could lead to international outrage and maybe intervention.
THE OPPOSITION? I think they stand to gain more if civilians keep dying and we keep having loop-sided reports like this one which confirms what they say as the Gospel truth and casts doubts on what the government says.
THEREFORE, the opposition in Syria could actually be commiting crimes and feeding these to the media to discredit the government in the eyes of the international community.
NOTE: The oppostion is only useful as long as such gory stories are coming from Syria – hence, even if the government were trying to stop it, the oppostion will not want such to happen as their only objective is to take over power.
The misrepresentation is in their media controlled
by Assad. He's trying to convince his people
the atrocities being committed by his army are
really the acts of the activists... calling them
terrorists. Trying to maintain support by his
population. His own media personnel are
in danger, now!
And if the US does nothing and leaves it up to the Arab League to put a stop to this genocide, we're the bad guys for not intervening with our military. If we do intervene for humanitarian reasons, we're the bad guys for meddling in "internal affairs" that are none of our business.
I agree.
It is one hot mess.
At this particular point, it does not appear that anyone is benefitting from this situation.
There are no winners, only losers.

It's always best to err on the right side.
Intervention...
You see? These are the very reports that al-Assad says are all distorted, and are irrelevant to what is actually happening in Homs, Syria.
This man is now deaf, dumb, AND blind...total idiot. He admits giving orders to bomb, but he didn't ACTUALLY kill anybody himself. So that means he washes his hands clean every night before he goes to bed.
"Burned" is descriptive.
Are Syrian government forces burning these women and children at the stake?
If so, good: they will become saints, like Joan.
Write all of the propaganda you like about this rebellion, whoever its initial sponsors are.
Please, however, do not send USA troops into Syria.
I think that the Arab Spring is closely related to cherry blossoms.
Very Funny...
HAR-HAR-HAR!!!
Would you think it was funny if it were
YOUR wife and children? I think not...
But, by all means, have your fun! Wouldn't
want to burst your cherry good time...
@ High Hopes:
Such naiveté as yours is a national treasure. You belong in a special museum On the Mall.
1. Have the guts to use only one nom de plume.
2. My wife and children are not trying to overthrow the government of their country with rifles and farming implements.
3. When a large town in my home state was under a valour-filled siege that my great-grandfather survived during the War Between the States, our ladies defiantly carried parasols as they walked amidst the shelling.
4. Hillary Clinton, to whom you referred elsewhere on this topic, is an excellent but nevertheless professional (paid) politician.
5. Your gratuitous, holier-than-thou lessons are not required at our home. I will continue to post my opinions, and you are, by statute, free to post yours. Nobody here responds to the inducement of Molly Berg guilt, so don't be my teacher.
.
Anyone who would make a comment
about kids being burnt on a stake...
Loco!
Parasols and Corsets...
LMAO!
From the full report:
"CNN cannot independently confirm reports of casualties or attacks in Syria because the government has severely restricted the access of international journalists."
And yet you ARE reporting on it.
What is the truth here?
All I know is IT NEEDS TO STOP!
China is eating this up! Buy some more junk from Walmart.
... and the Queen?
She sits in her palace, hiding behind her Gucci's...
Geesh!
If Assad's army didn't shoot a missile through
our media center, we'd have reporters and
correspondents on the ground... how soon we
forget!
Dead children, stabbed in front of their mothers.
Looks like Assad is picking up where Colvin
left off. Don't be foolish, Colvin wasn't lying!
RIP...
Hope
@ hope, i agree! But if it makes people sleep easier at night pretending this is all fiction made up by the media, then let the fools sleep. But to them i say, pictures dont lie!!! And twas an american reporter that was KILLED recently!
And another FACT, if these incidents were made up, his OWN military personel wouldnt be defecting by the dozens!
Thanks, Chrissy:
I'm a naive national treasure!
