Delta jetliner rolls off taxiway during test

A Delta Airlines jetliner veered off a taxiway during maintenance testing at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport early Tuesday, causing significant damage to the aircraft, an airline spokesman said. No one was injured, he said.

"Mechanics testing the engines of a Boeing 737-700 this morning experienced a problem with the plane’s braking system," Delta spokesman Eric Torbenson said.

The plane left a taxiway near 8 Right at the airport, he said, and rolled partially down an embankment.

There were no passengers aboard, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration said.

Actually, the mechanics testing the plane wanted to do a little off-roading but couldn't keep the wings from dragging on the ground.

I was on this flight, most scariest time of my life. It felt like the plane was going to roll over. Thank God we made it through it

OMG – You must be one of the Mechanics. I'm sure your lawyer would not want you posting about your catastrophic failure. Thank you for letting me know that mechanics from Delta, like yourself, are inept.

Looks like a -700 model. Too bad; Delta only has 10 of those and they are nice airplanes. An MD-88 on the other hand, would have been no big deal.

Good job by the media, as usual, of sensationalizing what was essentially a non-event. To read ANY headline main page link about this story, you'd think a jetliner loaded with passengers went careening over the side of an embankment. Oh wait... no one aboard? It was a test to begin with? Wow.

Delta's lawyers should be getting in touch with the media to discuss their misleading and sensational headlines.

Oh geeze, I hope the mechanics have good union representation on this one.... Braking issue? I think driver error is more likely.

With the exception of its pilots and a few dispatchers, Delta is non-union.

I was on the flight also. It was absolutely terrifying. The flight attendant kept screaming about 9/11 and then she broke into the cabin and started wildly kissing the pilot, who was so drunk that she looked attractive......hence, the veering off the runway. It wasn't the joystick honey......
