Fatal shooting of Florida teen turned over to state attorney

A case involving the fatal shooting of an unarmed Florida teen, which has sparked outrage and calls for justice, is in the hands of the state attorney's office.

Police say Trayvon Martin, 17, was returning from the convenience store to his father's home in Sanford, Florida.

A neighborhood watch captain, George Zimmerman, 28, saw the teen and called 911 to report a suspicious man, authorities said.

The 911 dispatcher told Zimmerman not to confront Martin, but by the time police arrived, the teenager lay dead with a gunshot wound in the chest, said Bill Lee, the Sanford police chief. He was carrying a small amount of cash, some candy and an iced tea.

Zimmerman told police he shot Martin in self defense, authorities said.

"When you add it up, it just doesn't even make sense," said Ben Crump, the Martin family's attorney. "Trayvon Martin, a kid, has a bag of Skittles. (Zimmerman) had a 9 mm gun. Trayvon Martin didn't approach George Zimmerman, George Zimmerman approached Trayvon Martin. So how can he now assert self defense?"

We have a neighborhood watch, we are told to watch, if you see something wrong dial 911 and let the police take over. We have black, white and Asian kids with "hoodies" on, even old people when its cool outside. Thank God they don't live in Florida, they would be shot and kill.

Thank God, maybe now a REAL investigation can take place. What kind of police department does not interview witnesses after the shooting death of an unarmed teenager? Answer: A racist one, perhaps? That soils the reputations of our brave men and women in blue who risk their lives to enforce our laws daily. This man shot down a young unarmed boy. How is that not a serious crime and threat to all? The poor fellow, you can hear the terror in his young voice screaming for help that could not come quick enough. death by hatred and racism. So sad. So meaningless. So tragic and final.

Mr Zimmerman is a snitch. Caing the police numerous times to report anyone he didnt like in his neighborhood. He is A rat and a murderer. end of story. He belongs in prison for the rest of his life. He should have minded his business. I think he is a pathetic excuse for a man and his friends and family are as stupid as he is they should just shut up and pay there respects to the martins who have lost a son at the hands of this monster. Why is he not in jail I hope the black panther party gets there hands on him. An eye for an eye no one deserves to suffer more than george zimmerman and I hope he gets everything he has comming to him in spades

Sharpton and Jackson should be arrested for disseminating false information to the afro-american community which will incite the afro-american community to riot which will led to the death or murder of innocent individual(s). We see almost every week black on black killings in many US cities and figures show the murder rate in America is highest in the black community and it is black on black crime. Why hasn't this gotten Jackson and Sharpton leading demonstrations demanding justice ? The answer, they can't play the race card. They profit from making this a race issue. They use this issue for their own purposes and to put this attention on the Black on Black crime will not profit them.

It is nice that they turned it over to the same State Attorney that told the Sanford Police to let Zimmerman go with a trial or drug test because the Zimmerman's father is a retired judge.
