Outrage, protests grow over shooting of unarmed Florida teen

Outrage over the killing of an unarmed Florida teen rippled nationwide as supporters planned more protests Wednesday and a petition demanding the shooter's arrest amassed nearly 1 million signatures.
Trayvon Martin was fatally shot on February 26 while walking to the house of his father's fiancee in Sanford after a trip to a convenience store.
George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch leader, said he killed the teen in self defense.
Nearly 750,000 people have signed a petition on demanding Zimmerman's arrest, making it one of the website's largest campaigns.
On Wednesday, supporters will gather in New York City for a "Million Hoodie March," a reference to the attire the 17-year-old was wearing when he was shot.
"A black person in a hoodie isn't automatically suspicious. Let's put an end to racial profiling," the protest page said.
Zimmerman has not been arrested or charged in the killing of the black teenager. A police report describes him as a white male, but his family says he is Hispanic.

There is an America, there is African Americans. There IS a problem with people wearing military fatigues to a home owner association meeting, with his pistol strapped to his side..This guy is mentally derranged,he thinks he's protecting everybodies homes from zombies or alien invaders. He's the reason there should be a stricter gun law,I have a concealed gun license and don't abuse it.There has always been some problems with the law.Its too easy to get it,no psychological testing,no real national pads network to check with licensees real past. They the state ,are too hungry for revenue to do real involved background checks. Background checks like for clearence in government facilities, nuclear facilities and so on.Many law inforcement officials wouldn't be allowed to carry sidearms ,if I ran the background and psychological evals, too many loose cannons. So tightening of the laws need to be done, that's my two cents worth...

    @ chrissy:
I looked it up anyway. It's a matter of choice as to what is PC, many older persons preferring "Latino" and younger ones preferring "Hispanic."

I don't know about all of those terms, but the police report says he had a wet back when they arrived at the scene.

Get rid of the hoodies, and the saggy pants look from prison. That's where ithe originates from, prison issue clothes that are too big and no belt. Doesn't everyone want to look like they are from prison?. Or on their way there.

I thought it originated with them wanting to show their mommies that they wiped thoroughly upon leaving the bathroom.

You weren't supposed to bring that up. (Yet.)
I wonder how that discussion will go here.

Throw the book at him. With the details coming out from the victim's girlfriend who was on the phone with him...and neighbor's sounds like Zimmerman is a racist with an itchy trigger finger. Get him off the street now!

Just a thought here...why don't we wait for all the FACTS to come out before we pass judgment.

Great idea, but some people want to create facts and even alter history .

Someone had the bright idea to change the image of three firefighters raising an American Flag at ground zero after Sept 11, to include a person of color. Just to be politically correct. Even though it was not factually correct.

      Didn't happen, nice try though.

This was murder, plain and simple. The Stanford Policy Dept. tried to cover this murder of a 17 year old up. I am glad that the Feds are now handling this case. Florida's justice system has major problems.

Can't help but wonder what if this were a situation with two white guys ....we'd hardly ever hear a word about it. This is the way of life there in Fl, I guess. Coverup so we can get back to our donuts and pretending to be tough on crime!

The "gangsta" look with pants ill-fitting, hoodies, showing boxers, shorts that are just cut off pants, etc are are vestiges of prison behaviors and posturing dress in the doubt about that. Beltless pants intentionally in the wrong size, white boxers (with a prominent seam in the butt-crack), as well as speech aberations and terms for things and people are all proudly from those good ol days behind the barbed wire. FYI

People commenting on a teenagers clothing styles is ridiculous. What are you trying to say? He was wearing certain clothes, so he deserved to be shot? That's the same as saying "she wore a skimpy outfit, so she deserved to be ra.ped." I've seen plenty of white kids wearing those same clothes. My son wears hoodies. ALL of the kids wear hoodies.

That boy didn't deserve to be shot. Why are we not hearing more that he snuck up on and attacked Zimmerman? He broke the guys nose. Let this be a lesson learned to all. There is nothing racist about this case.
