New York Jets agree to trade for Denver QB Tim Tebow

The New York Jets have announced on their Twitter account that they have agreed to a trade with the Denver Broncos for quarterback Tim Tebow.

The Jets have agreed in principle to the trade, the team said on its Facebook page.

The new comes a day after quarterback Peyton Manning announced he would play for the Denver Broncos and less than two weeks after the Jets and quarterback Mark Sanchez agreed on a contract extension.

"This is truly a special football environment, and I'm glad to be a part of it," Manning said at a news conference on Tuesday.

"I haven't had a whole lot of time to breathe. This happened Monday morning," Manning said of his decision to join the Broncos.

The arrival in Denver of a superstar of Manning's stature raised questions about the fate of Tim Tebow, who became the Broncos starting quarterback last year amid electric fanfare and led the team into the playoffs. Tebow won the Heisman Trophy in 2007, when he played for the University of Florida.

Tebow gained widespread media attention after leading his team to big wins down the stretch of games when they were behind. He also garnered a lot of attention, and jokes, because of his strong Christian faith. He even sparked the phenomenon of "Tebowing," named after his prayer pose following touchdowns.

I guess someone figured the Jets weren't a big enough circus yet.....Lets add Tebow and the radical Christians chanting his name as soon as Sanchez throws an incomplete pass.

So in order to chant his name you have to be a "radical" Christian. You stay up too late watching Bill Maher. When you did don't be surprised to find a "radical" God waiting for you.

Actually, NY is one of the last places in the country you will find radical Christians. As to the name-chanting part, unfortunately you're right. But that has nothing to do with religion. It has to do with short-term memory of many of my fellow Jets fans, who forget that Sanchez has had a better first 3 years than Elway, Favre, both Mannings, Brees, Rodgers, and 95% of the people who have ever played QB. All the QB that came in around when he did (Freeman, Stafford, Ryan, Flacco, Bradford) have had their setbacks too.

Funny – because it seems to me that most of the "radical chanting" is coming from those ranting and raving about the behavior of a few so-called Christian zealots. Forgive me, but Jesus had a word for all of you 'crazies' on both far-ends of the spectrum: "HYPOCRITES"

      I agree with you!

We have a highly moral person that just wants to play football and because he's Christian and his faith tells him to let people know about it, he's chastized. Then you have felons running around making $20 million/ year and tens of thousands stand up and applaud!

I hope Tebow improves and gets another starting gig! He got a raw deal in Denver.

Timmy boy thanks Jesus after every touchdown.
Timmy boy never blames Jesus for a fumble or a sack.

As John Elway said of tebow, "he'd be great if I was looking for someone to marry my daughter". Unfortunately, that doesn't say much for his QB ability.

    Wasn't Tebow dating Katy Perry?

I'm a much better quarterback than Tebow and Sanchez.

  9. TIM WILL PROVE THE CRITICS WRONG

With a veteran team like the Jets and Tim's versatile talent and toughness, I expect Tim to be in next years super boul! I'm just stunned by the stupidy of the Tebow bashers who are saying that Tim has no talent! How many NFL quarterbacks have taken their team to the super boul in their first year, especially with a young and rebuilding team? I have to laugh at people who criticize Tim because with the excepttion of perhaps 3 or 4 NFL quarters, Tim is the best quarter in the NFL and he will prove all the critics wrong next year.

And when the media and fans always bash players for their arrogance and on and off the field problems, here you have a great guy with integrity and honor and yet people are disrespecting him. This shows that America is the dumbest country in the world. See you in the super boul next year Tim and congratulations in advance!

Im over trying to comment to people WHO DO NOT know what a good QB is. see for yourself next year....

As a Tim Tebow fan, and a citizen here in Florida, I really wanted Tim to come back home to Florida. I will however be a fan of his no matter where he is playing!

Tebow has no choice but to go where his contract was traded. He will be a total gentelmen about it and ill work hard to to make the best of it. Maybe the Jets will make the best use of him and he will finally be on a team where management will give him support.

  12. Why Bash Tebow?

So many people (including those blogging here) are out to bash this guy for just trying to be a good person. Maybe those that have such nasty things to say should consider their own consciences. There has never been any indication that he is a phony. He appears to truly mean what he says and the life he is trying to lead. If anything, being ousted from Denver like this will test his humility. Wait and see how he handles it before bashing this guy.

The Jets and Rex will deal with Tebow. Denver players were sick of the circus Tebow created. I want to know if he is thanking God for the touchdown when he genuflects? He should have passed the plate while he's at it.

ok, HELLO. Anyone saying Tebo got a raw deal is a M O R O N, do you know football? Tebow CANNOT THROW from the pocket which has been stated by HALL OF FAME PLAYERS & COACHES, and proven. PLEASE, just because he threw a few SHORT passes and won a few games, DO NOT FORGET THAT THE DENVER DEFENSE STOPPED THE OTHER TEAM FROM SCORING ALL THE TIME, go look at the final socres. I know ALOT OF THE "I LOVE TEBO"fans ARE GIRLS ON HERE, which is understandable, but PLEASE LEARN WHAT A GOOD QB IS AND DONT COMMENT ON A BOARD LIKE THIS BECAUSE YOU REALLY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT FOOTBALL. Its ok, IF you like Tebo, BUT DO NOT SAY HE'S A GOOD QB BECAUSE HE IS NOT, AND HE DIDNT GET A RAW DEAL IN DENVER.

    • TIM WILL PROVE THE CRITICS WRONG

You say Tim cannot throw from the pocket? Well, how many rookie quarterbacks are a John Elway or Joe Montana in their first year? Shouldn't Tim get the time to develop like all the other quarterbacks in the league? Do you remember what the critics used to say about John Elway? They used to say he doesn't have the touch of a true quarterback because he threw the ball too hard and off course. And those comments were made even after Elway had a few years under his belt as a starter. Now Elway is considered one of the best in the game. Perhaps you just don't know anything about football. But as I said, Tim will prove the critics wrong!
